newbie2009 Posted October 6, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Just looking for some clarification on a few things: Megans Bay Beach is about a 15 min cab ride from the port (Approx $4pp)??? Admission is extra (Approx $3pp)??? Is there shopping near Megans Bay Beach... I hear St Thomas has great cheap jewelery! Would you suggest Megans Bay over Emerald beach?? THANKS! Also is there a quick way to find out if there will be amny other cruise ships docked the same day?

The Islander Posted October 6, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 6, 2009 Magens Bay from Havensight is about a 15-20 minute drive in low/medium traffic. The taxi is $8 pp, ow. From Crown Bay the drive is about 25-30 minutes and taxi is $10 pp, ow. Magens admission is $4 pp (12 and under are free). There is a boutique/gift shop at Magens that sells souvenirs, towels, beach/resort cloths, swimsuits. Major shopping areas are at the cruise ship docks and in downtown Charlotte Amalie. Yes lots of jewerly stores. Magens vs. Emerald... what are you looking for at the beach... close to dock, shade, chairs, snorkeling, have kids, watersports... For what ships are in port you can try a ship schedule for St. Thomas, try http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=+cruise+ship+schedule+for+the+virgin+islands&aq=f&oq=&aqi=. --Islander

I'm just noticing it now. Is Emerald closer to the dock? Do you pay admission there? Im looking for something not oo far from the dock... but most of the nicer beach. How far of a cab drive/$$ to downtown for shopping?? Thanks Again, arent you lucky to be living there!!!

rob51 Posted October 21, 2009 #6 Share Posted October 21, 2009 Planer'sEdge, Emerald Beach is free, no admission charge. I was there last week of May this year. Just walk thru the Hotel lobby by the bar and restaurant and out onto the beach. The hotel does charge a fee for chairs and umbrella. Not sure, but I think it was $15 for 2 chairs and umbrella. Nice beach, had lunch at the hotel in our beach attire. Hardly anyone at the beach the day we were their, so was very quiet. Hope this helps u out regarding Emerald Beach. Oh, you need to get a taxi to get there and back. Maybe, don't quote me, $15 each way and only 10-15 minutes from the pier. Rob
laser110 Posted October 21, 2009 #7 Share Posted October 21, 2009 Magen's Bay is one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world according to National Geographic. If your not on St. Thomas alot, missing going there is missing a big opportunity. Yes, there is a fee, but the Beach is within a National park and the fee helps to maintain the park and the grounds. The Islander Posted October 21, 2009 #8 Share Posted October 21, 2009 Emerald is close to Crown Bay dock. There is admission at two beaches on St. Thomas: Magens Bay and Lindquist (Smith Bay Park). They are both parks. If you are docked in Havensight, downtown is about a 8-10 minute drive in low/medium traffic. With traffic longer. Cab is $4 pp, ow. --Islander
