Globaliser, for the info. I had to run out this am after hearing that little blurb. Couldn't wait around for the news to come around again but had time to post a quick question. I knew my friends here on the board would know.

I think that's a casino boat rather than a cruise ship. At least in the terms that I think of a cruise ship.

We did one of these out of Palm Beach, FL a couple of years ago. At one time this boat looked as if it was a very small cruise ship. It was very old and very small. What once was the swimming pool was no larger than the hot tubs on todays RCI ships.

Cruise Ship Catches Fire Near Fort Lauderdale

Some Passengers Treated For Smoke Inhalation

POSTED: 3:28 p.m. EDT May 16, 2004

UPDATED: 7:39 p.m. EDT May 16, 2004

FORT LAUDERDALE -- Officials put out a fire Sunday that burned in the engine room of a gambling cruise ship carrying about 160 people off the coast of Fort Lauderdale.

Rescue workers examined about a dozen people as a precaution after the ship docked, but all were released.

The fire on the SunCruz Casino cruise ship was reported about half an hour after the vessel left at noon for a five-hour sail.

It was towed to Port Everglades about two hours later with everyone still on board.

Firefighters who reached the boat at sea sealed the engine room's airtight doors to contain blaze. When they opened the doors while the ship was in port, the fire was out.

People on board were sent to the outdoor top deck and were given life vests after the fire started.

The cause of the fire was unknown, but an investigation was planned.

Cruise line officials said the ship's evening sail was canceled.
