PIT to PBI, FLL to PIT: transportation recommendations in between?

Six of us are flying into Palm Beach the Saturday before our cruise. We're thinking about renting a SUV and driving to the Ft Lauderdale area to our hotel. On embarkation day, one of us will take the other 5 to the port, return the car at FLL, and take a cab back to the port. Does anyone have any recommendations or suggestions? Thanks.

 

We're flying back out of FLL so that shouldn't be too bad getting from the port to FLL.

cost effective, convenient and you'll have the car to go out to shop/eat/see something while you're there, etc
