shorton Posted October 31, 2009 #1 Share Posted October 31, 2009 We are excited to have booked the March 2011 Amazon cruise on Regatta, our first trip with Oceania. We have read that the Amazon is six miles wide. What can you see from the ship as it makes its way to Manaus? Does the river narrow considerably? Thanks. Of course, the farther up you go it does narrow some. It's all flat land so there is not much to see on shore except trees and a few farms, there are very few towns along the way. When you get closer to Manaus, you do get quite close to shore in spots and you have a good opportunity to see the pink dolphins....and a bird or two. capecodder2 Posted October 31, 2009 #3 Share Posted October 31, 2009 You also see muddy fast moving water with lots of trees and other natural debris flowing along side you. It is a very interesting and different cruise area, you will know you are not in the ocean. Enjoy.
CintiPam Posted October 31, 2009 #4 Share Posted October 31, 2009 I just attended a a travel class where the teacher spent about 30 minutes talking about his visit to Manaus, with great photos. Looks like a fascinating place to visit; enjoy your trip!
