Feliseop Posted November 3, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 3, 2009 I will be visiting Barcelona this summer during my cruise on the Noordam. I have been there several times before and am looking for a new experience. Has anyone visited another city in the area? I generally do not go on organized tours. I have no problem getting on public transport and going. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.
Wendy The Wanderer Posted November 3, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 3, 2009 You could go up the coast to Figueras and see the Dali museum and his home. I haven't done this, but would love to. http://www.virtourist.com/europe/figueres/index.html
Ms Understood Posted November 3, 2009 #3 Share Posted November 3, 2009 Oh yes, the Dali museum in Figueras was a lot of fun! Sorry, not sure if you can get there on public transport. We had a private car and driver and went there, spent a few hours,[dont miss the jewelry exhibit which is a separate admission] had a nice lunch and then to the house he built for his wife Gala before back to BCN. It was great day! -------------- Helen

keltic Posted November 7, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 7, 2009 Definitely Girona or Tarragona. You could get the speed train to Zaragoza which is the 3rd biggest city of Spain. Speed train to Madrid, in the same day could be exhausting.
glenneagle Posted November 8, 2009 #7 Share Posted November 8, 2009 We did Dali and Girona. Both great. There is also an outlet mall just outside of the city.Public bus gets you there easily.

peteukmcr Posted November 27, 2009 #9 Share Posted November 27, 2009 Sitges is worth a visit. About 20 minutes south by train a nice seaside town, great promenade, historic church, beautiful beach and plenty of places to eat and drink.
euro cruiser Posted November 29, 2009 #10 Share Posted November 29, 2009 There is an excellent Dali web site with specific instructions on how to reach the museums via public transit: http://www.salvador-dali.org/museus/figueres/en_index.html We were in Barcelona for five days post cruise this past summer and didn't have enough time to see everything right in town, and so never made it out to see the Dali sites. Next time.
