Genoa metro

Has anyone used public transport (metro or bus) to get from the cruise terminal in Genoa to the Sottoripa area? It looks too far to walk. (Will have parents age 77 with us)

On google map, I can see a major road outside the terminal area. Is this a major/dangerous barrier to cross?

Yes - if you try to climb on the elevated highway...

and you do not use the traffic signal to cross this street:

In front of the orange/brown building is the access to the subway which I never used...

I don't remember the specifics, but I walked from the cruise ship right into town with my mother, who was in her mid-eighties, and my aunt, who only has partial use of one leg, and we made it just fine. I had an Eyewitness guide book with me and probably picked up a more specific local map at the cruise ship terminal.
