What else to do in Maui?

The last time we visited Maui, we did/visited the following:

1. Drive to Hana

2. Mt. Haleakala Sunrise (too cloudy, so did get to see the sunrise)

3. Maui Ocean Center

4. Maui Tropical Plantation

5. Iao Valley

6. We drove to Lahaina and relaxed on the beach.

What else is there for us to do/see in Maui? Any suggestions? We'll be travelling with two young kids.

Thanks

When are you visiting? If you're there during whale season, I'd definitely do a whale watch. The kids would get a kick out of the stories they can tell their friends. If you're going to be there in Feb, you might even hit the Whale Day festival.

Also, check the Pacific Whale Foundation for any special activities they have on your day in port. Depending upon the day, they have tidal pool tours, special boat trips, etc. Some of them are geared toward kids.

You didn't mention Paia or Makawao. Those are both interesting towns. Makawao is the Maui cowboy (paniolo) town. The kids might be more interested in the bakeries than in the galleries/boutiques, etc. But, they are both fun towns to visit.

There's always an ice cream cone under the Banyan Tree in Lahaina. That's a nice break from activity.

If you give us an idea of when you'll be there and how old the kids are, I'm sure you'll get more specific ideas that would be a good fit.

Don't know how old your kids are but nice drive to the Kula area along the slopes of Haleakala is very nice. There's a winery, a lavender farm and a goat farm (Surfing Goat Dairy). The last time we were there it took the up the whole day. The goat farm was a tourist trap but if your kids are young they may enjoy it. But they make award winning goat cheese if you like that sort of thing. One thing that we locals do when we visit Maui is to have some gurigri from Tasaka Gurigurishop in the Maui Mall.

We'll be aboard the POA sailing on Nov 28th, so we'll be in Maui on Nov. 29 & 30th. Our kids are young...4yrs & 18 months.

Please join us on the roll call! There are people there from all over the world! We're meeting at the Key West bar area immediately after the muster drill, say 5 or 5:15. All are welcome. Nothing formal, just be there! It'll be our only chance to meet other people from cruise critic.

Read the board and see what other people are planning to do. See you in a couple of weeks!
