scsagh Posted November 24, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 24, 2009 We are debating between staying at the Hilton on Biscayne Blvd. ($91 for 2 queen beds) or the Marriott Biscayne Bay ($101 for 2 double beds). There are 4 of us (2 adults, 2 teens). Has anyone been to both and prefer one over another, or just really enjoyed whichever one you were at? We are not going to have a car, so plan on taxi from the airport and to POM. Then using the bus or taxis to go to South Beach area Sat. afternoon and hopefully doing the Miami Ducks Tour. Also want to go to a church about a block & a half off the MetroMover stop near 2nd St & 2nd Ave. Sunday. Have people felt safe using the MetroMover? Nightlife isn't much of a concern for us. Thanks for any input or suggestions!
eandj Posted November 24, 2009 #2 Share Posted November 24, 2009 Metro mover will be fine during the day. We passed a few homeless sleeping in the wait areas and on the cars, and it can be kind of dirty. But you will be okay. Would never use it at night tho. Plenty of houses of worship in South Beach plus it is completely walkable and no need to cabs.
CRUZERGAL56 Posted November 24, 2009 #4 Share Posted November 24, 2009 I just returned from Miami after staying at the Key Biscayne Marriott. it had been 6 years since my last stay and the recently completed overhaul was very nice. The hotel has always been my choice for a pre cruise stay and i've only had a king sized bed. This time there were 3 adults sharing the room and it was not comfortable. Instead of 2 queen beds there were 2 double beds that were not adequate for adults of even average size. the restaurant did not appear to have been a part of the renovation and the quality, like so many other things, seem to have suffered with decreased hotel occupancy . The Hilton seems to occupy the space that used to be part of the Omni shopping center and The Omni is now the Doubletree.
scsagh Posted November 24, 2009 Author #5 Share Posted November 24, 2009 Thanks for the South Beach suggestion BlueHerons, but we only want to do the one excursion there and wander a little. Not interested in all of the nightlife, and seems like we can get a lot nicer hotel for the money with either the Hilton or the Marriott. Don't know if it might be quieter also eandj, thanks for the metro mover info. Will be interesting to see how it is compared to all the homeless sleeping in the subway entrances when we were in D.C. GinDon Posted November 24, 2009 #6 Share Posted November 24, 2009 We used the metromover last month, in the afternoon. Felt perfectly safe, didn't see anything that made us feel uncomfortable.
