atlantic cruiser Posted November 30, 2009 #1 Share Posted November 30, 2009 Can anyone give me an approximate amount in Euros to tip cabs, porters in hotels, bus drivers on tours etc. I know it depends on variables such as length of trip etc. just wanted a basic guide line. thanks.:o

brian_uk Posted December 1, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 1, 2009 Most of Europe (except UK) include tips in Restaurants and cabs etc but we always add say 1 euro or loose change which is appreciated. In UK 10-12.5% in restaurants and similar elsewhere. Porters add £1 per bag. It is not as money grabbing as in some US hotels where you seem to be expected to tip everyone on arrival from taxi to porter who takes bags from taxi to bellboy who takes them to lobby and finally the one who delivers them to your room. orchestrapal Posted December 1, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 1, 2009 We are currently in London and are happy to report that restaurants are now adding tips, usually 10-12 1/2%. It seems this is in most places. Many Brits do not leave additional however we usually do leave extra for good service or in those places where we are regulars.:)
Foggyzx9r Posted December 1, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 1, 2009 It varies in the UK. Some restaurants will add a tip to the bill, however read the menu as as far as I am aware they will have to inform you of this usually on the menu. If you pay by card some machine payments will ask if you want to add a gratuity. I prefer none of these as I would prefer to tip the server, a bit biased as my daughter is a waitress:D
