katwmon Posted January 12, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 12, 2005 DH, DD7, and myself are sailing on the Regal Princess in June. Can anyone recomend excursions either through Princess or Private that might be good. DD does not have to go on any, but if something would be of interest then I would want to take her along. Here are our ports and times in each. Sitka 12p - 6:30p Haines 8am-7:30pm Juneau 7am-2:30p Victoria 9am-2:30pm Thanks for your help
jrask Posted January 12, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 12, 2005 Tons of great options, but you'll need to limit things before we can help. Look over the excursions offered by any cruiseline (typically very similar) and start narrowing things down...Princess has a downloadable excursion brochure that is ideal for this. Excursions in Alaska make or break the trip and which ones depend on the vision of Alaska that you want to experience. Once you've narrowed things down, we can be much more helpful. For some guidance: Juneau has a ton to offer with most people's preferences being a helicopter glacier landing of some sort (dogsled on snow, hiking or walking on ice surface), whalewathcing (independent Capt Larry very popular). Other good Juneau choices involve exploration of the rain forrest or trips to view the Mendenhall glacier, but there are plenty of options. Haines is famous for the bald eagles, but aren't too many during this season. Consider a raft through the bald eagle preserve or take the ferry accross to Skagway for gold rush history at the national park or a train or drive up to the Yukon. Victoria is a great city and many choose to visit Buchart Gardens. Sitka is a place for russian history and for some nature choices (whale & otter viewing and kayaking).
