Did the casino move?

We are going to be in St Maarten on January 6 on Carnival Dream. We have been to St Maarten many times and have enjoyed a casino that is right near the water taxi. We were told several months ago that the casino was moving. Does anyone know if it is still near the water taxi or if it has moved, where it is now?

I know that there are a couple on Front St (I think that's the name) but this one was not there. My husband has a bad knee and is having a hard time walking, so I thought this one was in the perfect place.

Thanks.

Hello again.

Yes, it did move. Now it's located at the foot of town, across from the Air Lekkerbeck (Heineken plane) bar and restaurant if you're familiar with that area.

The easiest casino to get too now would be the Diamond Casino, at the head of Front Street. Get off at the other water taxi stop, in Bobby's Marina next to The Greenhouse restaurant, and walk out to Front Street. It's right on the corner. About 150 yards from the water taxi.

And just a bit farther (across the intersection) there is the Jump Up Casino.

Thanks so much for the info. I have never gotten off at the other stop so I am really not familiar with the area. I liked having the casino where it was, lol. It was convenient to the liquor stores that I shopped.

For rides back to the ship, is it as easy to get the water taxi at the Marina as it is at the other stop? Are there liquor stores at that end of town? What about a place to bu;y a wheel of cheese? Sorry for all the questions. If there is anything else you can think of that would help, please add it to your post.

Thanks again.

Easy Peasy. The Water Taxi just makes a loop. Minutes before or after it visits the Little Pier, it is at Bobby's Marina. Very easy to catch or get off there.

We also prefer the liquor stores down Front Street, past the Court House, like Caribbean Paradise and Splash. Sometimes Ram's, so I don't have any Personal recommendations for a shop East of the Court House.

BUT, just across the canal, to the East of the Casinos and the Water Taxi, is Sang's Super Market.

It doesn't have the very BEST prices on booze, but decent values, and it has had a good assortment of Gouda and other cheeses. We have not had a good experience with their wines, however.

Take a look at this Google Earth shot:

You should be able to click and zoom in on the image.

Sang's is across the canal and then across the street from the other sites mentioned. You'll have to cross the canal either up near the casinos (street), or below Bobby's Marina (pedestrian bridge), as seen on the shot.

If the photo doesn't work out, or if you have other questions, just post back and we'll work it out.

Gary,

Thanks again for the info. I think this last map gave me a little more insight into where I will be going. It looks as though the Diamond Casino is off a main street. Do you think a regular cab would be better to take than the water taxi?

My husband will be using a walker so the going will be slow. If we do take a cab there, is it easy to get one to go back to the ship? Sorry again to be such a pain.
