Cruise to Cancun??

You're not going to find cruises to Cancún, Q. Roo. But there are ports in a few nearby places that you might want to consider. The most popular port is San Miguel de Cozumel, Q. Roo, an island opposite Playa del Carmen, Q. Roo. Other ports in the vicinity include Calica, Q. Roo; Majahual, Q. Roo (usually advertised as "Costa Maya"); and Progreso, Yuc. Of these, Calica is most convenient to Cancún since it is located on the mainland just south of Playa del Carmen (by taxi you'll probably be able to make the journey in about 90 minutes). Majahual is much further south and somewhat isolated, while Progreso is closer to Mérida, Yuc. (both of these ports are handy should you have an interest in Mayan archaeology).

If your heart is set on Cancún specifically, then search for cruises that include Calica as a port (and preferably with a sufficiently long time so as to compensate for the highway travel). If you're looking for ports in the region generally, then searching for Cozumel will give you the greatest variety of cruise itineraries.

It kind of depends on what about Cancun you are enjoying.

Overall closeness would be a stop in Calica ... and then be a short taxi ride to Playa del Carmen. Some of the differences would be although the beaches are all federal property in Cancun there aren't really beach clubs. Generally you want to be staying at a hotel so you have a place to order food and drinks (or have them brought to your palapa). In Playa you will see some beach clubs. (same with Cozumel ... though I've not spent a lot of time there).

You won't find the techno clubs a la DadyO's & Coco Bongos. To me PDC is a little more laid back than Cancun, less expensive and the shopping is a bit better.
