floatingaway2525 Posted December 31, 2009 Author #251 Share Posted December 31, 2009 After getting back onboard, we headed to Lido aft for a champagne sailaway....lovely end to a great day! Then it was time to get ready for our time at Chef's Art tonight...the Steakhouse/Supper Club.... This was my third time to the Supper Club, and I once again had a meal to remember!!! From my bisque, to my filet mignon/bearnaisse, to the chocolate sampler thingy, it's all OMG great!! It's something to see the chefs behind the serving area, intently watching over the DR as each course is served at the cozy tables, watching to see the reaction of the guests, and totally intent seriousness on their faces as they wait for what they need to see... So of course I had to get up and go over there and tell them to relax, it was all amazing and they were fabulous:D I do have to say that this visit was a bit different and not quite up to my previous visits....this had NOTHING to do with the food, which was superb!! I will say it was more of a coordination for our group of ten. First of all, they could not accomodate 10 at one table so we were at tables of 6 and 4 but side by side lengthwise, so actually except for a space between the two tables we would have been fine. But then the servers treated us as two separate tables so one table's timing was "off" the other. It was just not quite as much fun as Glory's. I think this will improve as they are working together longer, and hopefully learn how to accomodate larger groups of 8 or 10. This was an early to bed night, some PB time then some downtime for our port day in San Juan...:p

I quickly spiraled into a deep state of depression. Later I was relieved to learn it accidentally made its way into Bonnie's suitcase. Though I was saddened that I no longer had my prized possession, I was happy just knowing that it was "In Bonnie's Arms". I told her she could keep the necklace! :p  (Maybe she'll feel sorry for me and give me the super cool necklace that she got in St. Thomas ;). Of course, if she does, Lizard will probably kill her, me, or both of us, so maybe on second thought... Hhhhmmmppphhh__________________

readboat Posted January 1, 2010 #258 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Hello, we will be on the Dream in 8 days. Can you bring wine on board? We could on the Freedom in the Med. I looked at the wine list and it is quite pricey. thanks for any info you can give me. Addy
floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #259 Share Posted January 1, 2010 I hate to miss anything when I am on board, and sometimes it's a struggle because I love the nightlife and I love the daylife, but you gotta sleep sometime...I usually can't choose so I just keep going until my body decides and I crash.... that was St Thomas night for me, so I was up before dawn on San Juan day...we were due in at 7am... WOW the morning sail in was fantastic!! We had weather off the port side and forward, and then different weather totally when you turned the other way, simply stunning. And then the city of San Juan came into view out of the most incredible stormy sunrise!! Pretty soon I could see the harbor markings and the first sight of the fort that guards Old San Juan... The weather was moving faster than we were, and the vista kept changing...
floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #260 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Wow, then the storm moved on, and skies were clearing...San Juan is a beautiful place to sail in to!! I had only been here by plane before, and I loved the sights you see sailing in!! The wall of the fort surrounding Old San Juan is almost intact here, quite a sight... floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #261 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Then the docks were in sight, along with our sister Atlantica, who had arrived before us...it looked like we were heading to dock alongside her and share her pier... floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #262 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Ah but then, something different was happening... and happening in rather a hurry, at least as much of a hurry as this big girl could manage...and we were in reverse:confused:
floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #263 Share Posted January 1, 2010 So we continue backing off, and there were three or four little boats motoring around us...very curious...I decided it was time to make a dash for the top deck for a broader view... Once I rounded the corner on Deck 11, I was completely distracted by what I could not see from my balcony...wow....forgot about what the ship was doing while I enjoyed what was happening across the harbor, to the right of the piers... We were watching a rainbow form right in front of our eyes, and then, little planes could be heard approaching, and we could see the runway off the bow of the ship.... We were clapping and cheering as two or three planes made their approach pretty darn close alongside us, not a one of us knew the other but at the moment you would never know it.....it was one of those precious times that stay forever in your heart... jules815 Posted January 1, 2010 #264 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Do they only do the laser shows before late seating? Do they have them later in the evening, after late dinner seating is over?
floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #265 Share Posted January 1, 2010 For a minute I wondered if our ship was backing off for air traffic control... but no...Todd was on the PA explaining that there was a problem with the dock area for our Dream, and it was a danger to pull in...those wingy thingys on the dock next to Atlantica's could pierce our lifeboats if the ship shifted the wrong way during docking, and that would end our cruise...we waited for a time while they tried to find an alternate dock space, alternate port, alternate something...but alas, nothing could be arranged and pretty soon the Captain came on the PA and announced that for the good of the ship and all of us, he would head out to sea and we would arrive earlier than planned at Grand Turk the next day....and so we came about and sailed out of the harbor..... I could hear the pain in the Captain's voice when he made this announcement, and I felt so sorry for the trouble he faced, and WAY sorry for the poor soul who was responsible for the port arrangements that are made in advance of planning itineraries:eek::( It was a disappointment to miss exploring Old San Juan, but I would much rather not jeopardize the whole sail, so it was time to regroup and relish a beautiful sea day!!! Incredibly, Todd had new Capers out in less than an hour to the whole ship, with new activities and such....
floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #266 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Do they only do the laser shows before late seating? Do they have them later in the evening, after late dinner seating is over? Oh no jules, they did a preview laser at 7PM on the first night, and the full shows later in the week were at 10PM!! The Pink Floyd one was totally amazing!!:D

floatingaway2525 Posted January 1, 2010 Author #269 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Great review Floatie as always;) Question for you.. can you tell me the smoking arrangements on the lido deck on the Dream?? Thanks so much!! Oh this is funny...it's the Lido portside on Dream...mid-ship and aft...and it had us going the wrong way off Lido all day the first day because it's always been starboard...I think someone was having fun because it was just one more funhouse thing about the Dream, kind of like Through the Looking Glass-ish...:p Actually, except for the Casino which was ridiculous, I thought the smoking areas on Dream were much improved!! More open areas gave them a much better way to accommodate smoking without disturbing nons:)

S.S. Cruisers Posted January 1, 2010 #274 Share Posted January 1, 2010 Floatie: Absolutely the most amazing pictures I have seen. That rainbow is fabulous! As for docking, I said Rut Row, when I saw where the Dream was suppose to pull in, next to Atlantica and saw those flipper thingys sticking out. But I have seen Captain/Pilots do wonders, so I thought they knew what they were doing, and I guess they did! Cudos for the Captain making a less than desirable decision for the safety of his ship and passengers. Nancy
