krusader Posted January 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2005 I'm new to this board as I just signed up today. It has been very informative so for. My wife and I are sailing on the Rhapsody on 1-16-05 as this is our Very First Cruise we are very excited. We have a balcony suite booked on the 7th deck and thats pretty much all we know about the cruise other than where its supposed to dock at. So any comments are tips would be helpful. Oh by the way we are both in our mid 30's and will be leaving our kids at home. thanks

We have sailed Rapsody before and will be boarding her .. on Jan. 23rd. when you come in. She is a grand ship and is called the friendliest ship at sea. The sevice, food and entertainment is excellent. You have a great room. We booked that same suit but got upgraded to the 8th floor but the same room size. The room is wonderful and the balconey is really work it. I know you will have a great time. If you want anymore info.. springtxbill Posted January 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Register today on the link above for the Meet & Mingle if you have not already. You have to register at least 3 days ahead of sailing so you may make it today. There are 42 others already signed up and is a great chance to meet some of the other people on these boards in person. You did not say how you are getting to Galveston, but if you are driving, check out ezcruiseparking.com. They are like $45 for the week ($$0 if booked online) and are about 425 or so cheaper than the "official" port parking. They are great people and great service. m00k3y Posted January 13, 2005 #6 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Over the door shoe holders are a great thing to bring along, you can store all kinds of things from toiletries to film to digital cameras, brushes... on and on in it and it is organized, out of the way and easy to find. They sell at walmart for less than $3.00. That was the best tip we got for our recent cruise. At dinner, do NOT be afraid to order more than one dish. if something sounds good but not sure you will like it, order it. If you don't like it, they will be more than happy to bring you something else. Also, don't be afraid to ask for a special item, my wifes birthday was during our cruise and I asked the head waiter to arrange filet mignon for dinner that night. I never saw filet mignon on the menu but they had it for us when i had requested it and it was delicious. We tipped our room attendant $20 on the first day, service was outstanding all week long (it may of been anyways, but he truly went out of his way for any requests that we had - xtra blanket, pillows, towels, whenever we requested anything he personally brought it and fast). Bet big at caribbean stud poker if Tanya is dealing! - well worked for me anyways! Stay away from let it ride ( 10+ straight losses there on first night, never went back!) If you order the drink of the day in the souveneir glass in the schooner bar, it is a "glass" glass, by the pool, they are plastic. same price. We brought bubble wrap with us to protect our glasses as we knew we were going to be getting some and were flying home. Rhapsody definately has a friendly staff! Main thing, relax, enjoy yourself, eat lots! When your are at sea, food has less calories so eat up! honest! ;)
krusader Posted January 13, 2005 Author #7 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Hey, those were great tips as I do like to gamble and drink some. What are table minimums normally in the casino and or the drinks free while gambling?
MEOWSMURPHY Posted January 13, 2005 #8 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Funny you should say stay away from "Let it ride"..my son won $1800 on it..dealt 2 2's and they flopped 2 more...what are the odds???..he was stunned..said he now knows what it means to "break out in a cold sweat"..LOL..:D IMHO..you can never have enough zip lock baggies...they come in handy for all sorts of things...also if you have a balcony take a bungie cord to hold open the door
springtxbill Posted January 14, 2005 #9 Share Posted January 14, 2005 I think the table minimums are maybe a dollar, but am not sure. They are very low though. One thing i am sure of is no free drinks while gambling. :)

flagger Posted January 14, 2005 #11 Share Posted January 14, 2005 What are table minimums normally in the casino and or the drinks free while gambling? Table minumums are $5/$10 and $25 at night. Drinks are not free in the casino.
krusader Posted January 14, 2005 Author #12 Share Posted January 14, 2005 I really prefer playing craps as this is a high energy game and can really be fun with a good table although I never heard anyone mention this on the ship.
m00k3y Posted January 14, 2005 #13 Share Posted January 14, 2005 hehe when it comes to gambling and anything outside of single deck blackjack, it all comes down to luck. Glad to hear someone won at that game LOL. For me, every time I had Clint or Tanya as a dealer, I won. EVERY TIME. it was unreal. By the end of the cruise, whenever they were dealing, i went from betting $5 a hand to $15-$20 a hand. I had $20 bet and Tanya dealt me a full house and qualified! That was the best hand of the trip. Anyways, the tables on our trip were all $5 min, $500 max. No free drinks in the casino. Highly recomend the cocktail seminar. LOTS of drinks for a great price. DO BE CAREFUL, if you volunteer for anything, you probably will end up smashed. maybe a good thing? :) ;)

They have a craps table, but on our cruise it was not very busy. I stayed away from it as it is only single odds. I think that is why it isnt very busy.
