Alan2504 Posted January 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We are booked for the Millenium in July on a Med cruise. Just wondered if the staff prefer their tips in Euros or Dollars? I know the ship operates on a dollar basis, but wondered if the staff being based in the Med over the summer might prefer tips in Euros to avoid any exchange charges if they are buying anything there? Anyone with any experiences or thoughts? Thanks Alan
Andym Posted January 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2005 We have always tipped in Euros, but coming from the UK it's easier for us. The staff have never said there was a problem with it. I presume that being based in Europe for so long, they can spend their euros, without having to exchange the $ and pay commission.
Bruin Steve Posted January 13, 2005 #3 Share Posted January 13, 2005 I have always tipped the crew in US dollars...If you charge the tips on your account, they are charged in dollars...and, of late, I've used that featue rather than having to carry large amounts of currency... I really don't know what they prefer...Money is money, whatever the form...I am sure they get some Euros and spend some, but the nature of the job is that the bulk of the tips they receive, they save or send home to their families in their home countries--where, be they Dollars or Euros, the form makes little difference...
