best beach

I can recommed many good beaches, close to the port. Please be specific about what you like to make it best- chair rental, snorkelling, restaurant nearby, quiet, bustling... everyone has preferences. The Jolley Trolley is a good choice, too- swings you along the row of beaches on the West shore, where the pier is located- you can hop on and off and give several beaches a try.

The west end beaches (Rainbow, Fort Frederik Beach, Sand Castle, Dorst...) are very close to the Cruise ship dock in Frederiksted and some of them have resturants and other amenities. Sand Castle and Dorst beaches are part of a long stretch of shore that has different names for different parts. The beaches typically are not jammed. You can walk away from other beach goers and get a quieter peice of sand since the shore is a long stretch.

Cane Bay and Carombola/Davis Beach are also popular with cruisers again because they have amenities available like food/drink, chairs.

There are some other beaches with hotels on site and therefore they have restaurants etc, they are a further drive then 20 minutes: like Bucaneer, Tamarind Reef, Chenay Bay. And there are other beaches that might be sparesely populated like Shoys but it doesn't have any amenities and you'd likely need to rent a car or arrange for a taxi to return for you at a set time as taxis typically aren't at that beach.

Try looking at a beach guide for St. Croix for more ideas, photos, descriptions: http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=st.+croix+beach+guide&aq=f&oq=&aqi=g1.
