Gumtree Posted January 13, 2005 #1 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Trying to find something for hubby to do while I go horseback riding. He's interested in a half-day salmon fishing trip, which the website (http://www.skagwayfishing.com ) offers for $135 pp+20 license. Any feedback on this operation is appreciated! Yukon Posted January 13, 2005 #2 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Not a comment on the operator, just on the fishing. When we go salmon fishing from Skagway harbor, it takes more than half a day to fish a decent area. While he may get lucky, upper Lynn Canal just isn't all that good, because the Skagway and Taiya Rivers dump too much glacial silt into it and it takes 30-40 miles to settle out so the fish can thrive. The whale-watching is very poor for the same reason. Murray
Gumtree Posted January 13, 2005 Author #3 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Thank you for the info .. back to the drawing board .. are there any rafting trips, class III or so, in the area?
Yukon Posted January 13, 2005 #4 Share Posted January 13, 2005 Sorry, you're out of luck there as well - just a couple of mild floats on the Taiya and Chilkat Rivers. Skagway does "land" excursions real well, but isn't much for "water" excursions except of the frozen variety :) Murray
