cclarke12 Posted December 28, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 28, 2009 We are considering sailing on Oceana 17th April to Western Med, or Aurora on 19th April to Canaries. I realise with both we will have to contend with the bay of Biscay, however, I wondered once past the Bay of Biscay whether one itinerary was likely to be smoother than another? We don't have a preferance on itinerary as we have been to the Canaries before, and cruised the med before (although starting from Barcelona) Any thoughts? We are taking a 4 year old and a baby with us, so any thoughts on suitability of either ship would be good. Reading the brochures, Oceana seems to be a good family choice but the fact that Aurora has a covered pool is tempting given the weather may not be brilliant. LibraLass41 Posted December 28, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Yes perhaps choose a ship with a covered pool so the children can have a swim, I was on Oceana in September - to Norway, and missed not being able to swim atall. At least Arcadia and Aurora etc have covered pools. Why go so early? The Med is nice in May, not too hot for the children but nice enough for the pools and sundeck relaxing? Went to the Canaries in May on Oriana and had a good crossing over the bay, not much between Med and Canaries, as you can never predict the bay...but in April in maybe quite frisky? Another reason to wait another month or so?
Johnthed0g Posted December 28, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 28, 2009 We have been to both destinations in April, had good & bad weather, in the bay as well as out if it. We had no real problems but we would prefer to go a little later.
cclarke12 Posted December 28, 2009 Author #4 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Thanks for all this.:) We are fixed on dates as we were supposed to be going on Royal Caribbean from Miami, but with heightened security and the hassle of taking two young children transatlantic we have decided to do something ex UK instead. Therefore, dates for holidays already booked in, so we need to work around these. We also have a Fjords cruise booked in July so again want to space holidays out a bit. LibraLass41 Posted December 28, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 28, 2009 Then if April is your choice, I would choose the Canaries.... The Med weather can be poorer in April.
cclarke12 Posted January 2, 2010 Author #6 Share Posted January 2, 2010 Thanks for all the advice. I think we are actually going to for Ventura in mid April as I feel more confident that there is lots to amuse the children if the weather is (and probably will be) bad!
