Room at the Stern

Hi RCpup...

We recently had an aft wake view room on the Oosterdam. Not sure how similar the aft rooms are between the two ships. It was the first time we had one of these rooms. Here's my take.

Advantages: Great view, The sound of the wake is unique and relaxing, larger balcony than standard VA rooms, No traffic in the hall outside the room, Sunny balcony.

Disadvantages: No shade so very hot, people can see part of the balcony from above, location at back of the ship so far from stairs/elevators, some things floated down from above, noticed cig smoke more than usual (a lot of smokers go to the back railing of the ship to smoke).

We did not use our balcony as much as we have on other cruises because of the direct sunlight/heat and lack of privacy. We decided we would not do it again, however some other friends who are sun lovers really liked our balcony and said they would prefer it to theirs which was along the side. We also like to see where we are going and what is coming up. When you are at the back, everything gets further away rather than closer. On our itinerary, we did not get to see much port/pier activity from the back of the ship, which we also enjoy from a cabin on the side.

Hope this helps!!!
