solay Posted December 29, 2009 #1 Share Posted December 29, 2009 A quick question...there is a chance my son won't be able to join me on our cruise on the ROS that leaves on January 2nd (long story). I'm not looking to get any money back for the last minute cancellation (and I've already paid the gratuities for him), but was wondering if there was more money I now have to pay since I will be in the cabin myself. Also, do I need to call RCI to let them know or can he just be a no-show? Please be patient with me. I am new to cruising and am still trying to figure it all out. Rare lazydayz Posted December 29, 2009 #2 Share Posted December 29, 2009 We have been in this situation and my advice is to have him be a no show. That way you won't get charged more and RCI will refund his taxes - not sure about the prepaid tips but am confident those would be refunded as well. However, is there someone else you might want to join you? If so, it may only cost $50 for a name change (at least that is true on Carnival). bplazo Posted December 29, 2009 #3 Share Posted December 29, 2009 When we cruised a couple years ago my daughter's friend backed out a couple weeks before the cruise and we just did a no show and there was not extra charge for the room since it was already paid for. If I remember correctly we did get back some of the port fees. Insurance eventually paid us back for her no-show because we had a doctors note because of a mental illness. I would think you would get back your tips.
iluvcruzin Posted December 29, 2009 #4 Share Posted December 29, 2009 I'm hoping everything works out and your Son can cruise with you. It's only a few days away so I would imagine it might be too late to do a name change (call your TA for verification). Keeping my fingers crossed for you! arlodog Posted December 29, 2009 #5 Share Posted December 29, 2009 If it is not too late for a name change I say call your best friend and treat them to a cruise. If you are already going to pay for it anyway; someone may as well get some use out of it!
andrzej5914 Posted December 29, 2009 #6 Share Posted December 29, 2009 Why would they charge you more? I was a single cruiser with Celebrity and they charged me 50% single supplement, so in effect I was paying less than double occupancy. For example, if 2 people had to pay $1000 each I had to pay $1500 total for the same cabin. After all, they had 1 less person to feed and serve. I don't know what RC's policy is on single supplement as different cruise lines have different rules but regardless, it's probably too late to get any money back anyways, but the reason for my post is that there is no reason to hide the fact that your son is not showing up. If anything you may get some cash back, perhaps in the form of OBC but it's better than nothing. I would call and ask.
