Hampton Inn question

We will be cruising in April and just made reservations to stay to the Hampton Inn on Isla Verde Avenue. We will be staying there one night before the cruise and then two nights after we return. Has anybody stayed there before and can tell me if we should get a rental car? We haven't been there before and have no idea if a car is needed or if we should just plan on using taxis. We need help deciding if we should book a rental car. Please help!!!

A car is needed for what? The Hampton is very near the airport, and is located near many restaurants. It is a couple of blocks from the beach, very near a Publix supermarket, and Walgreens is within walking distance. If you would like to go to Old San Juan, you can take a taxi ($21??? each way), or you can take the bus. The hotel staff can help you with the bus, which runs about 75cents. As far as driving goes, personally, I would not drive there unless you are used to it. Scarey to me. Many people do just fine. I will not be one of them. (especially Old San Juan) A car to the rainforest would be OK. Just not sure what you mean when you ask if you need a car for the Hampton Inn.

Well...I have never been to San Juan before so I have no idea where Hampton Inn is. I picked Hampton Inn because we didn't want to spend a lot and they are a chain that you can depend on. My question was simply asking whether a car is needed or if it is simpler to just use public transportation. I'm glad to hear that many things are very close to the hotel. For all I knew the Hampton Inn was stuck in the middle of nowhere and cab fare can add up. Thank you for your advice.

Stayed there 2 years ago and again at the end of the month. Only used it for a one night pre-cruise stay and you are right, they are a chain you can depend on and not pricey.:)

Rooms nice and clean and the free breakfast is great.

Beach, restaurant and casino's-all in walking distance. Quick cab ride to airport and terminals.

Hi -

We stayed at the Hasampton Inn on Isla Verde aand we thought it was lovely. Great breakfast and clean rooms ... quite similar to the Hampton Inns you'd find in the US.

Be sure to have dinner at the very casual restasurant next door -- the Metropole. It is fabulous cooking. I had the stuffed cornish game hen ... and the meat was so tender it fell off the bone ... fantastic. It is about 25 steps from the front of the Hampton Inn. Don't miss it.

PS - Sign up for fast track to Gold with Hilton -- call their 1-800 number. It only takes 4 stays in a 90-day period to reach gold, and you'll have 2 "stays" with them for this trip.

Hope this helps!

Liz

Great! Thanks so much! Sounds like we made a good choice. We will definitely check out that restaurant.

We are so excited to check out San Juan. Other than walking around old San Juan...what else do you like to do there? Have you been to Arecibo Lighthouse and Historical Park? We have a almost nine year old and it looks like a place he might like. Do you know anything about it?
