Potential Thomson Newbie

As refugees from the OV ships, we are looking at Thomson Destiny as a potential vessel for our annual Caribbean cruise.

We have thoroughly enjoyed the laid back feel of OV and would be attracted by a similar informal atmosphere .i.e.we do not do formal attire on holiday.

One other concern is cabin size. The OV ships have some of the largest standard cabins afloat.

We have looked at deck 2/3 outside on Destiny and they appear to vary from 111 to166 sq ft. Compared with the 188sq ft. of OV, my wife would find 111 sq. ft. too small.

Would welcome comments from Destiny regulars and any that might have been on OV too.

Hi, have you also considered the "new" Thomson's ship the Dream which will be out there next winter?.

She will be the nearest thing they'll have to OV.

Destiny is a great ship for Atmosphere and Entertainment and the food and service is fantastic.

But unfortunately if your looking for 5* standard rooms then you will be sadly disappointed with the Destiny. The standard rooms are very small and definately dated and tired looking, but adequate, considering the amount of time you spend in the room.

Thanks, Budgie1. Not looking for 5 star rooms( OV cabins are large but not 5 star), more interested in good food and a great atmosphere.

We are on Thompson Spirit in 9 weeks, as you know we have had conversations on the P&O site re formal, we let you know how this compairs to Ventura & Oceana, without the formal. I understand the food and entertainment is second to none.:D

We are also on the Spirit in 9 weeks time.Went on her sister ship(Celebration) in November and had a great time.The first time we had been on a Thomson cruise and couldn't find any faults with it,so we are really looking forward to this one.

Did the Destiny 2 week Caribbean cruise in March 2009 and enjoyed it so much we have already booked again for March 2011.

 

The itinerary is absolutely brilliant and there are lots of reports on here to help you with excurions etc.

 

We love the Destiny, even though she is a bit dated, she more than makes up for that in atmosphere and service.

 

If you are not looking for 5* then I would say - go for it. You won't be disappointed.

cabins are shocking but its the best holiday Ive ever had and get a tux a posh frock and enjoy the one formal night its lovely.
