Dropping Luggage in Barcelona

I'm hoping someone here can help me with this:

 

We're boarding a ship in Copenhagen and disembarking on Civitavecchia, with one of our ports being Barcelona.

 

After the cruise, we're flying from FCO to Barcelona for a post-cruise holiday.

 

While we're in Barcelona during the cruise, we'd like to take our larger suitcase to the hotel for safe-keeping until we return a few days later. Flying without that heavy suitcase would be a whole lot easier. We've checked with the hotel and this arrangement is acceptable to them.

 

The question is this: Do I need to make special arrangements with the ship to take my luggage off? I assume there'd be Spanish customs to deal with. Does anyone have any experience they could share.
