Portsmouth ~ where to stay near ferry terminal?

I posted this in the Britain forum but thought I'd ask here too.

 

We'll be arriving in Southampton on QM2 on May 6. I plan on taking the ferry to Cherbourg from Portsmouth on May 7 and want a place to stay that's near the ferry terminal. I'll be doing the reverse the following week...ferry from Cherbourg to Portsmouth on May 14, overnight in Portsmouth, then board the QM2 for return to NY. Any suggestions for a hotel or B&B that's close to the ferry terminal in Portsmouth? Thanks...I've never been to Portsmouth!
