Looks like the welcome aboad champagne will be offered

I was on the Jewel last week and there was no bubbly. I wrote a complaint to the desk. I received a very nice call explaining that the bubbly was discontinued as of January 1. When I expressed my disappointment I was told that the research showed that this feature scored the lowest in terms of how it influenced people's opinion of NCL.

On my Dec. Jewel, they offered mimosas and champagne. Both os us passed as it certainly was not high on my list. I would agree with NCL on this one. I saw very few people grabbing them as well.

Now if they would give away a beer or drink, that would be different.....

The same with us and the coffee maker, I would prefer the extra space as I have yet to make coffee in my cabin. That's what sweats and short walk is for.

I didn't even know we HAD coffee makers in the cabins LOL I probably covered mine with the hundreds of pieces of detritus I pile on the "desk".....but I really do think the welcome aboard committee, with their glasses of champagne, lent a classy touch to the experience and, for me at least, set them a little above other mass market cruise lines.

Do we also no longer have the escort?

I can't trust the cleanliness of a hotel coffee pot. Cleaning folks frequently don't have time or the inclination to clean things like that correctly. At my age I've seen enough things that I will not put ANYTHING past the previous guest. Even seemingly "normal" adults are capable of unspeakable acts.

YMMV

Exactly why I clean the coffee pot out myself before we ever use it. We are coffee drinkers. Not every one is but we are.

Calling room service means waiting up to 45 minutes sometimes. I bring my own coffee which makes it even better. Coffee maker is also good for making hot chocolate and tea for "ice tea"... which we frequently drink as well. Who wants to call room service for this all the time.....not me! I hardly see the huge expense in keeping the coffee makers. They are going backwards in my opinion.

I agree with (and follow) every comment in that!

March 27, 2010 Star Mexican Riviera. I started a thread about it, I'm so excited! Can you go?

I intend to have a bubbly welcome, if it means my first stop is the atrium bar and I have to pay for it! :D Or maybe a pina colada welcome!

I like the way you think...We can't make it though. Just got off the Pearl again a few weeks ago and am going back to her on May1 to Alaska (that'll make 3 straight on the pearl for me). And we've got a B2B booked for november on the Sun

I'd appreciate hearing about your Mex Riviera cruise when you get back...that's one we've wanted to do. And we may try to work in one of the Pacific Coastal cruises coming from LA to Van some day...

hummm-maybe I should consider a Star Mex Riviera and book it so that I can stay on the ship and come up to Vancouver

45 minutes! Really?? We called for room service coffee every morning of our last cruise and never had to wait as much as 10 minutes. Had we been brewing our own, it probably wouldn't have been done by then. We are also in the habit of having a few cups around mid afternoon. For those, we either brew our own in the room (we always bring our own coffee on vacation also) or find it somewhere else on the ship. The lack of a coffee maker would never be a deal breaker for us.

If someone really wanted to brew in the room, they could always buy a cheap coffee maker and bring it along. ;)

While I agree with this, I suspect it is a tightrope they are walking on VERY carefully. I seem to remember within the past year, they made a change which created SUCH an uproar that they reversed themselves fairly rapidly. Obviously they do not want to deliberately alienate repeat customers, so they seem to be pushing the envelope a bit at a time to see how far they can go before the latitudes folks say Sayanora.

A far bigger concern to them, imo, should be their website. Despite repeated so-called improvements, I consider it to be an amateurish, farcical disgrace in a day when truck drivers and people answering customer support lines have FAR FAR more impressive and effective websites. As I have said before, if they had an attractive, well designed and well maintained website, many of the problems with the folks answering the telephone would disappear.

I agree with you, fin. How hard is it to have a good website person?

I bet you guys money that the website person's last name is Sheehan. LMAO!

I've waited several times for about 45 minutes if I didn't order it the night before. They get so busy in the AM with 'scheduled' deliveries that it sometimes happens that way.

You're exactly correct Monte. If you do not order the night before (which works out well as a wake up call) the wait could be quite long in the morning. Mainly because they have to honor the commitments to the people that were prepared and ordered the night before.

& the next charge will be room service for that coffee....NCL is really becoming a budget cruise line....

I love it!

They're becoming a budget cruiseline, based on your prediction of the future.

Will I be a rich man, based on your prediction of the lottery numbers? What are they?

Reminds me of the saying, " a lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on ours." :D

Planning to me would be bringing my own coffee maker and not having to depend on having it delivered. I ordered the night before once or twice and it does beat making it yourself....that's if you have not gotten up an hour before the delivery time like I did...could not sleep, and that's not something you can predict the night before. Bottom line....even cheap motels have coffee makers so I don't get the exclusion of them....I suspect that room service will be the next thing they will limit....which would not be a deal breaker for me. We get things off the buffet and bring them back to the room.

to a schoolyard tune with tongue in cheek at the expense of someone I am predicting can take a joke:

na nanna na na SP's a lightweight...gets a headache from one glass of champagne na nanna na na

I'm not a big drinker and even I can drink one glass of the cheap stuff without getting a headache......... oh my, I had 2 since I drank DH's and still no headache. Combine it with the OJ for a Mimosa and it makes it downright palatable.:D:p

OMG Julie-is there something in the water up here? I was thinking 'only one for a headache?' as well

No one said emergency. Just that on sea days I sometimes won't commit myself to being awake at any particular time. And I know they'll call first (which will wake me up) but it may be at a time I don't want to be woke. ;)

While I am still not toally convinced that the coffee pots are all going, I know for fact that the bubbly is gone. For the moment. We have turned things around before!

It's time to get over this, people. The masses have spoken and they've told NCL that the welcome glass of champagne is NOT IMPORTANT.

Like every other business in the current economy, NCL has looked for ways to cut expenses, and the champagne lost. It's as simple as that. Can we move on now?

Well, if you say it is over, than I guess we should listen then.

Agreed. One glass of cheap champagne that doesn't taste very good and causes a headache if overconsumed is no big loss for me. Drinking it only made me want a mixed drink that tasted good, like a frozen tropical drink or a rum and cola on ice with lime. I believe my husband took the orange juice in lieu of the sparkling wine on embarkation, because I distinctly remember him taking a sip from the glass and saying "ugh, concentrate!" And so it was to be for the duration of the trip, though I recently learned fresh squeezed juice is available on ships at breakfast now, for a price ;)
