Diving in St. Thomas or St. Martin?

We are looking for some feedback concerning diving. We are going to St.Thomas and St. Martin. We would like to dive at only one location and are hoping for some opinions as to which island has better diving, should we book our own or through the ship (we've booked outside the ship before therefore we feel comfortable doing it and know the risk).

So diving in Thomas or Martin? Thanks for the advice.:)

Never been to St Martin, but from what I have read it is not all that great. However, I have been diving in St Thomas and it is pretty good. I would book independently. If you want a beach dive I would suggest Coki dive club at coki beach. Im sure Bruce will pipe in sometime and he recommends Admirality dive for a boat dive. I hope this helps.

Bruce has been diving both ports. St. Thomas would definitely be his choice. He also like http://www.admiraltydive.com for boat dives. http://www.cokidive.com is a good choice for an inexpensive shore dive.

In St. Maarten I'd either taxi to Orient Beach or spend some time at the beach at the end of the International Airport runway and watch the big planes land.
