bxmvm Posted January 21, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2010 We are thinking about just spending the day in Belize on the beach relaxing. No snorkeling or anything like that - just sun, sand, and hopefully some drink (and food!) Anyone have any suggestions for a good place to go? marshhawk Posted January 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2010 :eek:Sit down, I have some bad news. Belize does not have a beach. The barrier reef to the east of the country has not created beaches in or near the city of Belize. The water's roughness has been calmed to the point, where it does not create surf(breaking up the rock to create sand)If you are cruising into Belize, you will need to book an excursion to one of the small islands, to get the sand and water experience. Check out Goff's Caye, and good luck, happy sailing.
bxmvm Posted January 21, 2010 Author #3 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Thanks for the info! :) I figured we would probably have to book some type of excursion. Anyone have any specific recommendations for a Caye or Tour Operator? I noticed Coral Breeze has an Island Escape Tour that takes you to Caye Caulker - anyone know if you are free to just lay on the beach once you get there, or is it a guided tour? Thanks! Caye Caulker isn't particularly beachy either. I've heard good things about Geoff's Caye and Bannister Island.

BigDoug Posted January 21, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Caye Caulker is pretty nice but not really a beach place.
bxmvm Posted January 21, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted January 21, 2010 This looks great! Definitely more what i was thinking. I did some more research into Caye Caulker and it doesn't seem to be a good fit for what we are looking for. Anyone have any photos of Geoff's Caye to compare? Yep, Bannister Caye is a great place.:D

marshhawk Posted January 21, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Oh man, two weeks from today and I will be there! Can't wait. There was a thread/review from blessedwith12, read her nightmare about getting back to the ship from Caye Caulker.
bxmvm Posted January 22, 2010 Author #10 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Oh man, two weeks from today and I will be there! Can't wait. There was a thread/review from blessedwith12, read her nightmare about getting back to the ship from Caye Caulker. I read that - what a crazy experience! Caye Caulker sounds like something I might want to do *next* cruise. Right now I think maybe we'll do something like Bannister Island. Thanks for the advice all! bxmvm Posted January 22, 2010 Author #11 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Beautiful! Thanks for posting these. Even if we don't do Goff's Caye this time, that is a definite future possibility! Found these on Webshots. Also, here is a recent thread on Goff's Caye.

LawnGuylandGirl Posted January 24, 2010 #13 Share Posted January 24, 2010 We were on the Independence of the Seas last week and spent the day at Bannister Island. It is lovely, could not ask for more. We did the ship's excursion because it suited us best.
