World Gallery Posted January 21, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Has anyone been to Ak'tenamit? I found this option as one of the NCL tours but would like to find out if we can book a tour here privately? I know that Livingston is popular and we know private tours that go there but we want to find out about going to Ak/tenamit along the way. Here is the description from NCL (sound like something everyone can enjoy, kids and adults): Depart Santo Tomas de Castilla by small covered panga-type boats enjoying scenic cruise through the picturesque waterways of the magnificent Rio Dulce. The trip continues to Ak'Tenamit, a community development located on the Rio Dulce in north-eastern Guatemala, dedicated to empowering indigenous communities through grass root programs in health, education and family income generation. At the project, you'll find a comfortable and peaceful place not only to be in touch with nature but also to admire how local handicrafts are made, and you may buy them if you so desire. Next stop will be at the small river town of Livingston; this is an excellent opportunity to see this quaint village, center of the Garifuna culture in Guatemala. Stroll through the picturesque streets of the town and admire the turn-of-the-century City Hall, the meeting place for locals, where dancing and singing are just a part of every day life. After the guided visit, enjoy a snack and a Garifuna show at Villa Caribe Hotel.
jcjky Posted January 21, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2010 Yes you can book this in port there will be about four or five tour angencies offering it. Livingston was not our favorite part of this tour they mainly stop there to get you to buy something to eat and drink. The rest of the trip was great.
