Colorado Kat Posted January 22, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Pay attention to what the screen says. In the beginning stages, taxes and port fees are not included. (Or the possible fuel surcharge.) As you get to later stages, everything should be included. Look for an asterix (*) near the price, and read everything very carefully. Tips are extra - usually $10 per person per day. Other than that, you can cruise fairly cheaply if you want. Extras such as shore excursions, drinks, and photos are nice, but not neccessary. (Well, depending on your ports - research the Ports of Call area on this website - some ports you really should not wander on your own.) Have a great trip! kitty9 Posted January 22, 2010 #4 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Drinks with alcohol are not included and neither are some specialty coffees, soda pop and bottled water. You will pay for juice ordered from bars or lounges. If they have an ice cream "store" you will pay extra for specialty ice creams. There are also alternate dining restaurants and those are not included either--you can pay upwards of $30 per person for those restaurants. For everything you purchase in the bars or lounges, they automatically add a 15% tip, so if you order a glass of wine that costs $8, the final charge will be $8 plus $1.20 for the tip. Anything you purchase on board in the shops are extra, as are the photographs they take, anything you play in the casino or if you play bingo. paul929207 Posted January 22, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 22, 2010 With the exception of the autotips, everything else that is extra, you will have to sign for.
GlendaleCruiser Posted January 22, 2010 #6 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Room service is included, but have a couple of dollars for tips. Just make sure that if you want juice or ice cream, get it in the Lido. It never hurts to ask if there is a charge when you see something you want (like specialty coffees, etc). Shay13 Posted January 22, 2010 Author #7 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Thank you so much for your kind answers. Do you know how much costs a big bottle of water, and a soda for example ? A friend told me that some cruises lines sell you tickets that you can exchange to drinks. Is it like that with Carnival ?
paul929207 Posted January 22, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Prices will vary by cruse line. Sodas are about $2 plus a 15% tip. Some cruise lines have a soda card. If you buy it you get unlimited fountain sodas on the ship. On Princess ships, it is $4.25 per day plus 15% tip.
Sheffie Posted January 22, 2010 #9 Share Posted January 22, 2010 Thank you so much for your kind answers. Do you know how much costs a big bottle of water, and a soda for example ? I don't know how much a big bottle of water is, but the drinking water on ships is good. The ship "makes" this water and it is very pure. Some people do bring bottled water onto the ship, and you can purchase it on the ship. I usually buy one bottle of water so that I have a container to re-fill for when I go off to a beach. kitty9 Posted January 22, 2010 #10 Share Posted January 22, 2010 This may change depending on the cruise line, but the largest bottle of water runs between $7 and $9. You really don't need bottled water---the water from the faucets is very clean---probably cleaner than most city water. Soda is $1.75 plus the 15% gratuity. You can purchase a soda card, around $5.50 a day plus the 15%. If you drink a lot of soda, this card is a good deal.
