Non-Smoking Areas on Epic?

Recommended Posts

I am a non-smoker and hoping there are some areas around the pool that are non-smoking? I have heard that Norwegian is pretty lax with their smoking policies, and that kinda bums me out. Please tell me there will be some areas of the pool that are non-smoking!!! Also, since this is my 1st cruise, how bad will the stateroom smell if the guests before me smoked in the room? I really can't stand the smell of smoke, and was disappointed to find that Norwegian allows smoking in staterooms.

I don't know about the Epic specifically but I'm a nonsmoker as well and cannot stand the smell of smoke. We were on the Dawn 2 years ago and were fine. If there was a smoker in our cabin on the previous cruise, we certainly couldn't tell. By the pool, it wasn't bad either. Usually smoking is only allowed outdoors on one side of the ship and we didn't see many people blatantly disregard the rule. We like that NCL seems better than Carnival (our only other cruise experience) with ensuring minimal smoke indoors as all the restaurants, bars, and lounges are non-smoking, and the only indoor smoking venue, the casino, is usually located somewhere that is not on a main thoroughfare.

My impression after 3 NCL cruises is it's not too much of an issue. I haven't had a problem with any room to date, and the common areas/pools/restaurants/clubs haven't been at all smoky. The casino is another story, but I spend very little time in there.

If you encounter a stateroom with residual smoke smell... just let housekeeping know and they will fix it. This happed to me on one of my cruises and they asked us to give them two hours (we explored the ship) and come back. When we did it was wonderful.

As others said, one side of the pool is smoking and one isn't. No smoking IN the pool either... haha.

Have a great cruise.

that is awesome! does the non-smoking side of the pool get super crowded though? hoping it won't be too difficult to find a pool chair on the non-smoking side. so glad to hear the ship has two-sides with the non-smoking/smoking thing. having been on many, many vacations, it almost seems as if i always pick the one pool chair that a smoker chooses to sit next to and puff away the afternoon. and then if i politely ask them to smoke in another area, they'll say "we're outside, what's the big deal? the smell can't be that bad"......um, if a dog took a crap on the pool chair next to you, does the smell somehow disappear simply because we're "outside"? hahaha. i have always been polite towards smokers, but my gosh, it seems they have no idea how repulsive the smell is to those of us that don't smoke! their smoke smells like a dirty, wet, smelly ashtray. ugh!!!
