Our welcome home from the Gem: Review of January 13, 2010 cruise (with pics!)

I recalled you saying that after seeing that you'd want to slip a twenty in with your dirty towels for those fellows. So true! (If only I could be sure that they'd get it!)...)

I sent treats down to them via the concierge!

Thank you for the wonderful review Aimee! You really know how to enjoy every moment. The pictures are great with beautiful scenery! What a ride back. We have not hit waves like that yet. Sounds like it did not bother you at all!

Liz and I have been the the Virgin Gorda baths. We had a stop there in 2006 when the Spirit did an 8 day out of NYC. I hope you get there someday. It is beautiful.

I am looking forward to reading your next adventure.

Wow looks like you had a great time. I was on the GEM for the 1 Night with my g/f on January 2nd.

I have a few questions if you don't mind,

How was the movement of the ship? Was it taking the waves relatively easy? A lot of rockin' and rolling?

Also do they have karaoke on board?

There actually was quite a bit of rocking and rolling on the way back if you were all the way forward or aft. The center of the ship was surprisingly calm. Not motionless, but the difference from the aft was enough that any time we spent a little time in the center (say deck six mid) we though the waves were calming, but they weren't!

Yes, they had karaoke in the Spinnaker Lounge. They even did a competition "Karaoke Idol" one night that I hadn't seen before.

What a great review. I am sailing on the Gem tomorrow. Perhaps you can tell me what days lobster was served in the MDR..

We didn't eat in the MDR when it was served, but historically it's on Dress Up or Not Night which is the second night (Thursday for you).

Thanks so much for the detailed review.

I enjoy hearing about the ports -- the ones we have been and ones we still have to visit.

It makes our cruise seem longer -- even more enjoyable because someone already did my research!

We leave 2/12/10 on the Dawn. My husband and I have not sailed with NCL before -- but my daughter has been on the Dawn and loved it. She will be with us this time and so I feel she can escort me around. HA HA

Anyway thanks for the review. I can't wait till we sail next Friday YEA !!

Great review and beautiful pictures. I am new to NCL, but the photos of their ship are so cheery and pretty. I love the colors. I know what to expect one cruises with CCL. Thanks for your experience on NCL. I'm glad I choose NCL this year for my vacation dollar. I do love the ships and the sea, but the ports are also cool. To me, visiting so many different places in a short time is very fun and keeps me coming back to cruise again and again.
