michiganian Posted January 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2010 I will be 14 weeks pregnant when I visit Grand Cayman. Does anyone know if I could go on a stingray tour? I looked at Carnival-sponsored tours and one said pregnant women weren't allowed and another didn't say anything.
Rare NutsAboutGolf Posted January 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2010 On my nativeway tour (private company) there was someone who was very pregnant. No idea about Carnival but I would call them as policies could of changed.
GinDon Posted January 30, 2010 #3 Share Posted January 30, 2010 I can't think of any reason why a pregnant woman wouldn't be allowed to do the Stingray tour. It's not physically strenuous, the water is only waist deep, the stingrays just glide smoothly around you, they don't "charge" at you. Beats me why they would have that policy. Their insurance might prohibit them from allowing pregnant women from participating.
rac Posted January 30, 2010 #5 Share Posted January 30, 2010 How hard is it to get in and out of the water from the boat?

If they get a high profile lawyer, could possibly win or on the other-hand, Carnival needs at least spend a lot of $$$ defending. How hard is it to get in and out of the water from the boat? For nativeway, you climb a ladder and the deckhands help you. You are wet, therefore heavier than usual...
jean-lynd Posted January 31, 2010 #7 Share Posted January 31, 2010 When we went with Captain Marvins one of our group was 5 months pregnant and she had a wonderful time. Of course, we all had to sign waivers before the trip. I don't know why Carnival would say you couldn't do it. I hope this helps! Enjoy!
drew sailbum Posted January 31, 2010 #8 Share Posted January 31, 2010 There are anecdotal reports from some of the old timers around Cayman that the stingrays pay special attention to pregnant women. No idea if there is research to back that up or how they might be able to tell.
Kedale Posted February 8, 2010 #9 Share Posted February 8, 2010 I went in January with a friend who was about 12 weeks pregnant at the time. She had no trouble at all. We were with Captain Marvin's.

It might not have anything to do with the stingrays. I know when we had taken some boat tours in Hawaii, they didn't allow pregnant women (or people with bad backs) on the boats as the water can get quite rough and its very bumpy and you can get thrown around a bit. Maybe thats the thinking here.
Riksha Posted February 8, 2010 #11 Share Posted February 8, 2010 We did the stingray tour a couple of years ago. It was warm, but very windy that day and the waves were quite choppy - they kept throwing us back, away from the boat. A few feet away from the boat the water went from waist deep to shoulder deep, and I did struggle a bit to get back to the higher sandbar with the waves hitting. I don't think I'd recommend it if the waters weren't calm. We had a good time regardless and the stingrays were very gentle, but most of our group was heading back to the boat before our time was up.
