Matansuka Glacier and Denali

Hi everyone I'm hoping one of you can please help me with this. My family, DH, 17yr & 10yr & myself will be traveling to Alaska this summer and trying to plan a land trip on my own, with help from this board.

We will have 4 night in AK before cruising out of Whittier on July 31st. We are planning on going to Denali for 2 nights but was wondering if it's doable to stop at Matansuka Glacier on the way to Denali or would that take me alot out of my way??

It's doable but I question whether it's worth it. The Matanuska is just not that impressive - don't think about the spectacular tidewater or hanging glaciers - this is more a gravel pit with some ice.

However, it is excellent for "cheap" glacier treking, that is impressive. I went out for 5 hours, excellent look at deep creavases, ice caves and repelling, if you chose to. Add a "ice" lake. At about $100pp it may be a good use of time.

Your time is probably short. I wouldn't be considering trekking on a Denali Park transit day.

And Murray, is correct. IF not trekking, it isn't worth the detour or time.
