SPB216 Posted January 29, 2010 #1 Share Posted January 29, 2010 Hi everyone I'm hoping one of you can please help me with this. My family, DH, 17yr & 10yr & myself will be traveling to Alaska this summer and trying to plan a land trip on my own, with help from this board. We will have 4 night in AK before cruising out of Whittier on July 31st. We are planning on going to Denali for 2 nights but was wondering if it's doable to stop at Matansuka Glacier on the way to Denali or would that take me alot out of my way?? Yukon Posted January 29, 2010 #2 Share Posted January 29, 2010 It's doable but I question whether it's worth it. The Matanuska is just not that impressive - don't think about the spectacular tidewater or hanging glaciers - this is more a gravel pit with some ice. However, it is excellent for "cheap" glacier treking, that is impressive. I went out for 5 hours, excellent look at deep creavases, ice caves and repelling, if you chose to. Add a "ice" lake. At about $100pp it may be a good use of time.

Your time is probably short. I wouldn't be considering trekking on a Denali Park transit day. And Murray, is correct. IF not trekking, it isn't worth the detour or time.
