JohnLauben Posted February 10, 2010 #2 Share Posted February 10, 2010 Why are the tiring this ship? in 2011, is a new ship coming soon? Don't know about any new ship(s) yet. If one (or more) is coming in 2011, we would have heard by now. 2011 is very soon in the cruise industry. The ROYAL is moving to sister cruise line P&O (iirc); so, it is staying in the family. It will be well maintained. No concerns here. As I understand it, the ship has 2 drawbacks. First, there really isn't "anytime dining" on the small ships. (No MUTS either!) There's one main dining room; alternative dining consists of the buffet and either Sabatini's or Sterling Steak House (one or the other ... not both on the same night). The second concern is probably more real. The ship does not have any mini-suites; only full suites and standard inside and outside staterooms. The small ships are more geared to longer cruises, and the lack of mini-suites (only on the ROYAL ... the PACIFIC and OCEAN have mini-suites) turns some folks off (meaning lower revenue). This makes the ROYAL more geared to the 7-day cruise marked; however, that is uneconomical for a smaller ship. Another possibility is, that since cruise vacations have been "sliding" due to the economy, PRINCESS might just be "shedding load" until the economy picks up. There is nothing wrong with the ROYAL PRINCESS, and it still is a great ship providing itineraries that cannot be found elsewhere.
