The Legend is "Broken"

Anyone know where she is now and how fast she is going?

Here's a link you can check back on for just the legend: http://www.marinetraffic.com/ais/shipdetails.aspx?mmsi=354237000

Current the boat is out of range and the last update was just over 8 hrs ago, but it still indicates they are on course for Cozumel.

Also, interesting information on the ships speed according to the site: Speed recorded (Max / Average): 14.4 / 10.9 knots

It certainly isn't like Carnival deserves the benefit of the doubt. They do not have a record of being upfront or honest about these things.

How fortunate you give them the benefit if the doubt..logically, many people do not.

They are just giving politicly correct answers to problems, that they do not know the full answers to yet.

What would you like them to say;

"We are having engine problems and plan on screwing up your return flights, we don't care about how or when you get home, you can give us all the money you have left in the casino or gift shop, and drink up!"

"Did you notice the ship is going slower? We have no idea why it wont go full speed, and really we don't care, please spend more money and shut up about missing your flights, we really don't care!"

"We have just talked to the accounting department, and all of you that smuggled booze on board have caused our profit margin to drop below our lowest acceptable point, so we are going to slow down the ship until you spend more money, by the way you are going to miss your flights home so please start using the internet to make new flights and hotels, you will be charged .75 per minute and just like the ship, we have slowed down our internet connection so you will be spending more, we are having a new Drink of the Day it is called the "Your screwed" and it is on sale for $8.50 drink up and if the profit goes back up we will in step on the gas and get home quicker!"

in actuality there are very few things they can say or put in writing because if they tell the truth, people will use it against them and demand compensation for the delay.

I have to say that I disagree completely about Belize. It's a beautiful country with wonderful people. It is not like the US, but few countries are. If nothing else it should give you a great appreciation for what we have in our own country. FWIW, you were in far more danger from crime in México than you were in Belize, statistically speaking,.

How did they get "dehydrated"? Who travels in a tropical country without carrying plenty of water? Things happen in the developing world, including hours-long delays.

We went to Belize one time, and it is a "Poor" country, but the people don't act like they are "Poor" they live life to the fullest that they can, the area around the port has good areas and bad areas, but that is normal in all ports, and it is more the port/ships fault not the peoples. The thing I liked most was seeing the houses that have "Rain barrels" on the roof for their water supply. I had never seen this and it was awakening.

I would go back any time. I also like Roaton for the same reasons.

This made me laugh. What if the ships propulsion system was really tied to how much money they were making.

I can hear the CD now: "We need 100 more inches of gold to be purchased by 8PM this evening if all of you want to make it back to port. Hurry up people or I will have the captain come to a dead stop."

It would be like the old Jerry Lewis telethons,

"We need just 20,000 more dollars, and we will make our next port, It can be beer, or bingo, or even in the casino, but remember only YOU can make a difference"

My wife's first reaction on hearing about the delay was: "WooHoo!!! Another day at sea! Anothe rday of vacation!!" Then I told her of the pax waiting for 12 hours + to board and the missed airflights home and added costs. And her tune changed to "'oh yeah, I forgot about that. That's not Fun!"

Hope everyone got home safe and sound and the current cruise is enjoyable. I like Costa Maya over GC anyway.

I haven't been to Roatan, but I suspect I'd feel more or less the same about Honduras as I do about Belize. I don't understand why people visit "developing" countries and expect them to be just like the US. Like you I find the people of Latin America in general to be full of life. They are usually economically "poor" by US standards, but they also seem to have much more of a "joie de vivre" that is lacking here at home.

I absolutely agree. Their country is beautiful, and the regular people who live there are probably wonderful. But that doesn't negate my remarks that the port was slimy, rundown, filthy and at times scary. There were very questionable people looming around everywhere. The vendors were FAR more aggressive than any port I've ever visited. They would hound us for LONG distances trying to sell their tours and trips and not let up. I was frightened for my elderly parents.

I understand that all of these caribbean ports have poor people trying to eke out a living, and our tourist dollars help that. However, my remarks were simply MY feelings on my experience in the Port of Belize.

And I stand by my comment that back on ship I did not run into a single cruiser who enjoyed any part of that port.

I DO feel badly for the Belizeans, but I will never ever return to that port. If a future cruise I'm on stops there I will opt for a fun day on the ship. I wouldn't let it bother me... I have a blast on "at sea" days and not going ashore for Belize would not stop me from booking a future cruise that had it on the itinerary.

They TOOK water... but you can only carry so much. As I said, their family's 5 hour activity took 8 1/2 hours!!! Almost twice as long. How many bottles can a person carry?

I'm glad to hear that there were some cruisers who enjoyed Belize. Obviously you and I didn't run into each other afterwards. ;) I will never return.

Heres the last information received from the ship this morning. Looks like just about 15 knots so unless they only need to be at that speed to make it to Cozumel tomorrow morning the engine problems might not be fully resolved.

Last known itinerary was:

Mon day at sea

Tues Cozumel,

Wed Costa Maya

Thurs Roatan

Fri day at sea

Sat day at sea

You're obviously entitled to your opinion, but if you choose to judge a country by the area surrounding a port even the US doesn't come out looking very good.

I don't care who you are, that's funny right there. ROFLMAO!

Amen. The only exception I can think of is San Diego. The port area there is gorgeous. Albeit, is clearly the hangout for many homeless people. The area itself though, is really pretty. I wouldn't get the same impression if I was just off the ship in say, NOLA. The smell alone would be enough to march me right back on the ship.

I know I will get beat up for this but, the people of that area are POOR (by US standards) because they have to be based on the economy, So many Poor people in this country are Poor because they want to be.

(I know I did not say that correctly but I think you know what I mean)

The only thing I would maybe change in that statement is changing "want" to "choose", though I guess you could say those are interchangable. And you hit the nail on the head.

That is correct, I was on the Splendor last year and in one of the ports we were looking off the side and one of the security guards was "peeing" in the water, just standing there in plain sight.

THE PORT WAS LONG BEACH, USA

I thought that this thread was about the Legend`s problems, which I will be on in 20 days so please take your syntax, geography and geo-financial comments to another site. TIA.

;) Sorry, I tend to just shut up about it but needed to get my $.02 out.

I am interested in following the news of the Legend as well... I'm "supposed" to be on her for our honeymoon in just a few short months. :o
