I don't really care what he thinks about my "little addiction" but I do wonder why he cares about my "little addiction"

I do respond to lots of CC threads that interest me, however the difference between you and I is I often respond to positive threads in postive manner.

And I don't smoke so I won't be blowing smoke in your backyard, however if I did smoke I would because guess what? It's allowed :D

But not in MY backyard:)

Just cruised with a party of 10, and I think I was the only one that did not have some kind of alcohol packed in their suticases. Not that much of a drinker except I do enjoy a frozen Margarita and DOD when on the cruise.

And somebody in our party will always ask me to bring back a liter in my suitcase for them when we come back thru Customs 'cos they know I won't be bringing alcohol back for me. Don't mind doing it if they'll bring a carton of cigs back thru in their suticase for me! :p

I don't get why this is always an intense topic. I am not bothered at all with others bringing booze or not bringing booze. Happy cruising to all!!!!:D

I have read about halfway through all of this - and wonder why no one speaks of the thrill of the game - for some, it is fun to break the rules, as long as the price isn't too high!!!!! I think that riding the edge adds to the fun for many folks.

just dropping by to say hi.. HI...

its amazing to me, this site is for cruisers..

1st time, experienced, drinkers,non-drinkers..etc..

people HERE find a common interest in cruising..

so, it becomes a community of information..some good..some bad

just like the opinions..

there is a physician/medication available..on the ship..

but i still pack medicine..yet,i have seen the dr onboard

& paid gladly $6 for 1 sudafed..

my point..just because it is available on the ship..doesnt always mean the prices are fair..i dont feel that the $10 drink-of-the-day(with a splash of alcohol)plus 15% tip automatically is fair or $3.50(plus 15% tip) for a softdrink...but that is my opinion..i have the option of buying it or not..but i dont have the option of looking for a better deal..out in the ocean....

u r allowed softdrinks as carryon..or its for sell on the ship

u r allowed wine/champagne as carryon..that is alcohol..

i have tried from boones farm to dom perignon.. i still prefer boones..lol..

and guess what...

i carried 4 bottles of boones(proudly)onboard..security was rolling..lol

yet, i still buy sodas & coctails..& pictures&gifts& play slots...its vacation

i paid for my cabin..and what i bring into the room i paid for..is up to me,

so..is it really smuggeling...

I could had written this post! Lol! :D

Me too....in fact, I have. Carnival, and all the other ships I've sailed on with the exception of the Pride of America (for the obvious reasons) has PLENTY of my $$$$$ on their side. They just don't show up on the S&S account......it was all converted into casino chips! UGH!

Unbelievable. Of course, by not following the rules that you have agreed to when you entered into a contract is UNETHICAL. They are providing you with a product for your enjoyment in order to make a profit for their company. So according to your last statement it is ok to eat the grapes at the grocery store because you will be buying a lot of them. Totally stupid reasoning to me.

If you go to the FAQ on the Carnival website and scroll down you will find "Can I bring alcohol on board?"

It states each adult over 21 can bring a bottle of wine or champagne on board as you embark ( not at ports of call). Nothing about hard liquor though!

I won't speak for K -- but for me, it comes down to this: I tend to ignore rules that I find capricious and/or without merit.

I don't believe that I am doing anything ILLEGAL or UNETHICAL by taking my own alcohol onboard. I'm not hurting anyone else nor causing trouble for anyone else.

I understand that Carnival would prefer that I don't bring my own booze, in order to increase their profit margins.

I would prefer not to increase their profit margin (any more than I already have) and thus I bring a small quantity of my own booze. And it doesn't bother my conscience one little bit. (Perhaps the fact that I know I'll purchase plenty of drinks on my Sail & Sign card helps me avoid the guilty feelings!)

Ever think that if everyone was paying for drinks instead of coming up with elaborate smuggling schemes, Carnival or other lines would be able to charge less for drinks? Think they may be making up a little bit for the smugglers? If so, I certainly don't appreciate having to pick up their bar tab. Another way to look at it is they can increase profit margins 2 ways...you actually paying for your booze or jacking up rates accross the board. Just my opinion...4 day cruise on 2/7 cost the wife and I $500 in booze and we had a fantastic time and drank most of the day.

By not smuggling my booze, why should I have to subsidise the cost of your cruise by buying more drinks?

My last 5 day I brought a lot of my own liquor and still spent over $700.00 on booze. My last 7 day was well over $1600.00 and I brought about three bottles of hard liquor. So they are not raising their prices because of me but maybe because of you. You're obviously not drinking enough. If you think their liquor prices are high because they're loosing money due to smuggling then I got some ocean front property here in New Mexico you might be interested in. Lol JK :D

So many threads on this board talk about smuggling alcohol on to the ships. I am curious, being that I am a non drinker, why would everyone bring so much alcohol? Is it because you don't want to pay the incredible high prices of the drinks on the ship? (which I totally understand) Is it that you like drinking a lot on your vacation? Do you drink to get drunk? Buzzed? or just to relax? When do you have that first drink? My last roommate smuggled on vodka in water bottles. She started drinking first thing in the morning with OJ. By the time I got back to the room at night, she was already passed out sleeping, and nothing woke her up. LOL

I am only curious to know why?

This is my first cruise on Carnival, I have avoided Carnival because it had a reputation as being a PARTY cruise line. But nowadays, the price is too good to pass up.

None of the above. Just like to have a drink while getting ready for dinner and/or a drink on the balcony . . . looking at the stars prior to going nighty night.
