but a smoker is more likely to partake in those behaviors. The non-smoker is more likely to partake in a healthy lifestyle of eating healthy and exercising regularly including walking and riding bikes, and using less perfume.

:cj

But what an exciting life you all must live. Whether you are healthy or not, one thing is guarenteed you'll won't have any better looking corpse than the smoker! But the smoker will probably have a h*** of lot more fun getting there, even if it is a little earlier!:D

but 25% of their passengers do not smoke,I love the way smokers inflate the percentages.Even if 25% percent of the adults did smoke you have to keep in mind that RCCL is a family ship and kids don't smoke

:cj

Kids don't smoke, what world do you live in? Little kids may not, but teenagers and tweens (kids) are just as apt if not more so to smoke or do far more dangerous things than adults (rebellious nature of teens). Believe what you will but Carnival tried the no smoking cruise and it failed due to lack of profit. Wonder why that was? Oceania and RSSC continually sends us 2 for 1 and free airfare to Europe and the Carib to take their cruises because they can't fill their ships. I wonder why that is? I guess not enough of you all nonsmokers are taking their cruises!

I doubt that but your definition of enjoy is not my definition of enjoy. Since you don't even know me, you are making another of those unsubstantiated facts.

RSSC is all inclusive, smaller ships, all balconies and superior service/food, Oceania is smaller ships and superior service. RCCL is mass-market, although nice, they are no match RSSC and Oceania in quality. There are not really comparitable. But as I said with restricted smoking policies, they are losing customers so the ones that do go pay more for their cruises.

Two comments I have to make on recent posts

STOP referring to the Pride as a failure. That was 10 years ago, it was 1 ship that went to the same ports over and over again. Ten years ago you could smoke in restaurants, bars, etc. In today's environment I would bet it would do better, not great still if it only went to the same ports over and over again, but still better than it did before. Everyone on the smoking side keeps bringing this up, it fails miserably to support your arguments.

On the other side, if 25% of people are smokers, look at the typical family of 4. If mom or dad smokes, then none of the 4 will be going on a non-smoking ship. So, while maybe 25% of the population smokes much more than that will not go on a ship if it is non-smoking.

There are arguments for both sides and nobody on this board is going to convert anyone else to their way of thinking. I do think there are polite smokers and non smokers and obnoxious smokers and non smokers. If everyone were to take a long hard look at themselves and make sure they are in the polite category it would go a long way to eliminating these debates.

A smoke and a good bottle of wine would be my choice. I am a smoker and NEVER smoke indoors anywhere and am bothered by anyone who does however in the open air, that is another story. Cruise lines have attempted to have non-smoking cruises and they have a difficult time filling the ships. Knowing the difficulty, they use the smallest available. In any case, this thread is going nowhere. We all have our idiosyncracies, pet peeves, faults, fears, issues etc. The key to this site is to bring everyone together to celebrate the enjoyment of a cruise. Sure, there are always minor and sometimes major items that we may not like on a cruise but in general, we all have a great time. Let's all have that great time together whether it be on these boards or on board.

That's not the point, it still costs the same to operate a ship whether the ship is full or half-empty. They don't take off fuel or crew just because they have fewer cruisers. They just charge more to cover the costs of operations. Business 101! Marriott Hotels lowered their rates to be more competitive not because of cleaner rooms. :D

We realize this is a pointless argument but it is fun mindlessly arguing senseless topics over and over and over and over again. I have no dissallusions of changing a non-smoker into a smoker or of a non-smoker changing a smoker to non-smoking. It is a matter of personal choice and respecting each other. You don't smoke in the non-smoking areas and you don't non-smoke in the smoking area if it bothers you that much. It's like reading this thread, nobody made you look at it but your own curiosity.:)

I really wanted to halt this thread but I must correct the above quote. Marriott is my #1 choice of hotels in most cities and they DO allow smoking on their balconies and DO have designated spots outdoors. Just like the cruise ships do.

I agree wholeheartedly. Hiking through the Mayan ruins of South America, Rome, Athens, Egypt, etc is only enhanced by relaxing on my balcony with a good cubano and excellent cognac or wine after a few hours of the casino at night. What more could you ask for? Oh I know a healthly tofu burger with alfafa sprouts on a some kind of lo-cal bready looking substance. :D:rolleyes:

A minor correction: I often stay at Marriott properties ( Platinum Elite) and most do not allow smoking on the balconies. Enforcement of this policy is another matter..

I'm going to keep it clean so I'll leave Capt Jake's wife out of this!:D I just don't enjoy having someone pound and stretch my skin for any length of time, I'm too darn ticklish for that anyway! Capt Jake, how did you get them to put hay in your room!? If you ever worked with hay or straw (from age 9 to 16 on farm) you'd think twice about that expression!
