So, once we get the smokers off the ship what's next? Meat eaters?

Again, I say this as a non-smoker who, although I do not like smoking, respect that it is legal and, as such, others have just as much right to exercise their right to smoke.

I have smoked for years and never have blown smoke in someones face.

OK...I'll change it to: "without someone sitting in the machine next to me less than 3 feet away and exhaling their cigarette smoke and the smoke then easily drifts into my air space."Better?

Here's a twist on an old theme. What if EVERY Cruise Line was designated no smoking (or maybe setup a lounge like the airports have).

Would you give up cruising?

Better yet, perhaps they could ban ALL addictions. No smoking, drinking, gambling or over-eating. Now THAT sounds like a fun time.

No, absolutely no and why would you even think about it? The smokers have just as much right as anyone else. Nobody cares if you don't like it, as there are plenty of places on the ship where you can go where the others are not "allowed"

Over 59% of those who voted feel that public places, such as the Casino, should be included in a smoking ban.

I voted that smoking should be banned from all public places. I live in Illinois which banned smoking in public places a couple of years ago, and it's so much nicer to go into a venue that is smokefree. People adjust.

When they ban smoking on cruises to one little tiny spot on the ship away from anywhere else:

I'll wake up rush out of my cabin with my cigs and race down the hall and get on the elevator only to find a couple who have been out drinking at all the clubs all night and the overpowering stench of alcohol makes me hold my breath. I push the button to get off on the next floor to walk up the last floor and I get behind the most obese couple I have ever seen who are going for their second breakfast already. I fly around them before they can block the doorway and almost trip over a little old man sitting in the corner crying because he just lost his retirement fund in the casino. And there it is, the smoking lounge. I look down for my cigs in my pocket and realize I have no pocket. Did I mention I sleep in the nude?

None of that is equivalent to breathing in someone's second hand smoke.

I voted No, but I am a non smoker, how would I feel if someone else suggested no to any of my personal preferences. There is a time and place for everything, and there is enough areas on any ship for some to be smoking and others not.

.......... No additional comments. ........I will make additional comments if I want to.

.....................I will not vote now but will sign on later so as not to lead the witness. This is not a court of law, what witness, where?

YES or NO.

If the Illinois rules prevailed, up to 25% of the cabins could be smoking and both sides of the outdoor decks would be smoking as long as you were 15 feet away from an entrance.

I bet that eventually happens. I live in Dallas, if you could not tell from my user name. Dallas several years ago implemented virtually a complete smoking ban for restaurants and even bars now. There was lots of discussion, pro and con, on this -- including: What will this do to convention business? So far I don't think it has hurt.

Gosh, on a ship, I think there is an entrance/exit at least every 15 feet.

Next question: Should cabin balconies be included in the ban? Hmmmmm. I did read one suggestion for that -- make one side smoking, the other not.

I didn't vote in your poll because you don't have my choice - I would like to see smoking severely limited in the public areas - on Rhapsody this month, one could only smoke on the starboard side of the Promenade or Pool Decks. Every other place, including the casino, was nonsmoking, and it was heavenly. I'm not sure that smoking was allowed on the balconies, but would like to see that banned as well.

Now I'll go read all the fun responses...:p

Aside from the obvious effects of second hand smoke - my main concern and fear is FIRE  I have seen my share of careless smokers on the ship and it scares the bejeeezus out of me......

I saw a first started outside a Hospital ER when someone tossed their cigarette into the mulch.

Here's my comment to those who compare other vices (drinking, gambling, overeating, etc) to smoking: when someone forces me to eat, drink or gamble I will complain about that also.

Smoking around anyone FORCES those people to breath in that smoke (including outside areas). NO ONE should be FORCED to breath in cigarette smoke.

Until they figure out how to replace the revenue lost from banning cigarettes (you can't tell me there is a good use for tobacco) this will be an ongoing argument. It is NOT about a person's rights. It's about money.

Your main concern should be the engine room and laundry area, where most of the fires

start.

And, galley!! Have a very good friend who took her first cruise years ago & spent 18 hrs on an outside deck (with all the other pax) when her ship's galley caught fire. Fortunately, they didn't have to use the lifeboats as they finally got it out; unfortunately, for her this first cruise turned out to be her last. Fires started for any reason would not be fun.

15 feet is not really that far. The whole pool area is more than 15 ft from an entrance on most ships, as is the deck above the pool deck, and large portions of the promenade deck, nearly all the bow area, etc.

I suppose that that half bottle of perfume bath is my choce to breathe that too!

Nicotine is the main ingredient in most residential insecticides, if you live in Florida that is a GOOD use for tobacco!:p:rolleyes:

Agree with your perfume comment. Can't stand that either (allergic). Some people have no idea that a little goes a long way.

agree.Smoking is 3RD

I think I remember in the last 20 some years only one CRUISE ship (Star Princess) fire which the SUSPECTED cause was from a cigarette dropped on highly-flammable balcony furniture! The facts were never released by Princess that I have seen yet. I'd like to see any references to others.:p:rolleyes:
