Doing Roatan with no excursions

What are the chances? Ive never been here and wanted to know what can be done in the area with no excusrions.

Depends on what ship you will be on. Carnival ships dock at their newly built pier which is on a beach with plenty of activities or beach time. The picture of it look nice

 

If you dock at the old port- Coxen Hole- you will be disappointed if you don't do a tour. There are a few nice shops within a few blocks of the port, but the area is quite poor and the locals can be intimidating [most are extremely nice though]. There are no beaches or scenic places to go in Coxen Hole. Roatan is a wonderful place to visit- I recommend that you at least take a taxi to a beach or the West End area.

We didn't do a tour but we did rent a car and it was the best day we had on our cruise!

Like MD said, if you are at Mahogany Bay you never have to leave the compound. We went to Tabyana Beach to snorkel because the water at MB was dingy from the wind, but I wouldn't have been too disappointed if we had stayed at MB.
