Beach close to cruise port?

From what I gathered in doing research for our cruise stop in Dominica a couple of years ago, the island isn't really known for its beaches. Didn't see anything close to the port or read of any close to the port. The hills and mountains are pretty much "right there", so there's not a lot of room for beach!

We arranged with Wacky Rollers to do the canopy/zipline tour [not offered through the ship we were on] and loved it. But it's pretty intense unless you're big into adventure already. [That said, I'm no spring chicken - although I AM a chicken! - and not a "work-out" person - and I really enjoyed the challenge.]

I have to agree there are not really nice beaches in Dominica. I have been there twice, first time went to Mero Beach along with Emerald Pool and Trifilgar Falls. Mero Beach is just not worth going to. I would suggest taking a tour and visiting one of the Falls. :)
