Wheelchair users on Thomson Cruises/Island Cruises

Has anyone else had trouble with Thomson and Island cruises, with regard to using their own wheelchair on board the ship if they have been unable to book a disabled cabin due to the lack of them on the ship?

I have used Island Cruises many times over the years and was very happy with them, until they adopted Thomson Cruises policy of only letting a wheelchair user use their wheelchair on board the ship if the have booked and paid for a disabled cabin.

I am only a part-time wheelchair user, and use it for getting around over long distances i.e. a cruise ship, and do not need to take up the allocation of a disabled cabin, when someone more needy than myself might need it.

Therefore I find this policy both stupid and discriminatory. What happens for example if there are no more disabled cabin up for sale, does this mean I have to book with a cruise company that might cost me extra, just because I am in a wheelchair for some of the time?
