Logistics: International pier to Chankanaab & back

Our ship will dock at the International pier in Cozumel. How long is the walk to the taxis? Is there shops to bypass before you find taxis (like the Carnival pier)?

We're going to Chankanaab in the morning and will spend a few hours there and then would like to go downtown for some lunch. Do you think it's worth the additional expense and time to take the taxi from Chankanaab back to the pier, return to the ship to drop off our beach bag, come back out, and find another taxi to go downtown? Rather than taking the taxi right from Chankanaab to downtown but having to carry around a beach bag?

I'd think the stop to drop your bag would be a fairly time consuming process. I could see it taking a half hour to 45 min. to make the stop, get on back on board, do what you have to do, then disembark, and hail a cab.

We rented a jeep in Cozumel last week and I carried my snorkel bag around downtown with me because I didn't want to leave it in the jeep. Just don't take as much in your beach bag and you'll be fine.
