woodofpine Posted March 4, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 4, 2010 We're hitting a few ports that may require town shuttle... Dubrovnik, maybe Izmir, Bari... I understand that MSC doesn't provide these free. Does anyone have experience with these ports and the shuttle charges to expect?
AmoMondo Posted March 4, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 4, 2010 i haven't been to Izmir. When we called at Dubrovnik (on the Opera) it anchored ofshore and tendered us in to the heart of the city so we did not need a shuttle. In bari we were booked on a shore excursion. From my experience of various other Med cruises (and elsewhwere) where they provide a shuttle, the cheapest has been 6 euros, some 8 and one (Marseille) 10. Hopefully someone else will have called at these ports recently and be able to give you the exact prices.
Gelbel Posted March 5, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 5, 2010 We were on the Opera last October and we docked at the port. We got a shuttle bus into the old town and I think it was about €6 each return (may have been less though as we'd doubled up with a lovely couple we met and shared a cab). There was loads of shuttles going backwards and forwards all day.
woodofpine Posted March 5, 2010 Author #4 Share Posted March 5, 2010 The transfer charges can tip things in favor of a line excursion at times if one is strictly 'bean counting' (never a good idea to be too strict). Curious... In Bari, the old town appears to be directly adjacent the port - piers. Granted piers can be several hundred meters, but did MSC use the pier branching out from old Barivecchia - or was it the piers further to the north a half mile or so...?? Do you recollect? In Izmir - there appears to be a pier/terminal right adjacent Konak square then the larger industrial port with heavy mixed use facilities is further away. Anyone with insight as to where the cruise ships dock?
