We are not going on organised trips with them ashore? We didn't have to pay for a visa for Istanbul, Cannakale or Kusadasi - all ports of call in Turkey so I don't think you would have to for Alanya. (We did DiY as well, not ship's trips). They often put visa costs in the documentation - just in case the situation changes between printing and departure. I suppose it's better to have alerted people to the possibility of a charge and then they don't have to pay rather than the other way round when everyone would be annoyed. We had the same in our tickets when going to the Dominican Rep. and Egypt - but didn't need to pay. You would need a visa if you were doing a cruise and stay though - 'cruise only' is just considered to be 'passing through'. Well, that's been our experience - hope that's right for you too. Cymro1953 Posted March 7, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 7, 2010 Hi, We had the same experience as Kruzseeka when in Kusadasi last June. We did both an organised excursion to Ephesus and went ashore on our own after as we had the time. No one wanted our passports to check for visas, we only had to show our ship's I.D. card to get into the dock area. Berwyn
