Vago details MSC Magnifica’s new elements pdf_button.png printButton.png emailButton.png

Saturday, 06 March 2010 13:06 MSC Magnifica, the fourth and last Musica-class ship in MSC Cruises’ fleet, is the most detailed, according to ceo Pierfrancesco Vago in Hamburg today ahead of the vessel’s naming tonight.‘Like many series-built ships the last is often the most detailed and this 93,300gt vessel is no exception,’ he said. The major difference compared to her sisters is found on the upper decks where there are four pools.

One, La Grotta Azzurra, sports a magradome with a sliding Pilkington glass roof. This pool combines green, beige and aquamarine cobblestones with Guatemalan green marble and teak, and is named after Capri’s famous Blue Grotto.

Vago said the ship also provides more features for younger passengers including an Underwater World children’s centre, a disco with 10-pin mini bowling alley and, replacing the wine bar, the L’Olimpiade sports bar including a nine foot by four foot stabilised pool table presided over by a giant black and white print of Paul Newman in ‘The Hustler.’

Inspired by the Olympics, the venue features a circular bar styled after a racetrack with Olympic torch motifs and floors in the colours and shapes of an athletics ground. Track markings are white LED stripes. Made of suede and metallic leather, the chairs and stools are bright and colourful. Italian sports memorabilia on display include Bertazzo’s bobsleigh, Panetta’s running shoes and Thoeni’s Olympic racing skis.

On the food front and for the first time MSC has teamed with double-star Michelin chef Mauro Uliassi whose dishes will feature on the ship-wide menus.

Four restaurants include high-in-the-stern Sahara Buffet with murals of desert scenes and L’Oasi with Moorish wool carpets, brass-topped wood inlay tables, sand gold and ochre plasterwork and hand painted ceiling.

There are 17 themed lounges and bars ranging from the streaked motifs of the Tiger Bar music lounge to the 330-seat, purple decor L’Ametista Lounge.
