Hey, going to casino you must arrive in style,right...take a taxi,,many will be at port...not expensive, only a short ride...Monaco is very small...know some hardy souls who walked to city center....know there were buses at port, outside gates but most took ship tour, taxi, private guide,etc...I say be a big spender and spend less at casino.hahaha:D

We did this back in May of last year. There is a water taxi boat near the cruise ship pier. We took this over to the other side of the harbor, and walked to The Casino. Very nice walk.

FYI. To go inside the casino, you have to be dressed. ie. closed toe shoes for men, long pants, and colored shirts. My husband wore white linen pants, and a long sleeved linen shirt with loafer type shoes. I wore a dress and high heeled dressy type sandals.

What we did was tour Monte Carlo in the morning and early afternoon. All by foot. The oceanagrapic museum was a must. Lunch on top of the museum was awesome. The railcar tour was good too. We went back to the ship around 3:30. Showered, and dressed like we were going to dinner in the dining room. Then we caught the water taxi and went to The Casino. Spent maybe an hour and then came back to the ship.

I think it was 10 euros per person to get inside The Casino. Minimum bets were $25.

But, my husband loves blackjack and has always wanted to go inside The Casino. At the time we arrived, he was one of the few playing blackjack. He actually had a swarm of tourists from the ship watching him play.

It is the quietest casino you will ever visit. Hush hush, elegant.

Oh, I found out the hard way that a glass of champage will cost you 20 euros.

Note I have not been inside.

As scubababy advised, you must dress and also pay to get into the area with the card games. I understand an area with slots is open to the general public without a fee and not as stringent dres code. There are tours into the Casino as well as the rooms are elegent.

I understand some folks buy chips for souveniers. Seemed like a good idea to me. Not many cheap souveniers in Monte Carlo and this is one of the casinos in the world with history and world reputation. It is certainly not a Vegas style casino. It may not be anywhere near a 'exciting' as a prime Vegas casino but I am sure a lot of folks would like to say there been there.

My one suggestion is to do what you are doing now - find out how to get there. I say that because prior to my visit last year I came across some posting of others on CC complaining of getting lost leaving the pier, unheplful signage, could not find the Tourist Office and the like. I thought that they were simply not paying attention. Well like them we got lost. And so did many, many more. So many in fact we were bumping into each other like a dead end route in Pacman. The signage is probably very clear if you know where you are going.

We never did really figure it out and followed a lot of other folks on a long march in the wrong direction. Our return to the ship, by good fortune was the most direct route we could have had (through the parkade). We would have turned around here too if it was not that I had read on CC that that is a good way to get in!

We had to pay 10E to get into the casino, go through the bag check and use the slots. I didn't see an area that was separate for that. It was just another area in the casino itself, like most casinos. Gaming in one area, slots in another.

The whole area is very expensive. There is a mall down the street, very nice, normal mall. We ate lunch there, it was very American lol.

We came from Villafranche port, so we just took the train to Monte Carlo, then a bus to the casino area. I don't remember that being so hard to do.

Ikmamom, Thanks for the offer, but we are planning to go to Eze on the #112 bus in the morning and will need to get to the casino in order to reach the bus. Yes, the casino is said to be beautiful at night all lit up. Our trip is getting closer.......

Oh, okay, I understand. We are doing the same only we are taking the train. Since my husband and son did this last year, we are taking the train to Nice first and then to Eze (I think, may be reversed ) anyway, they have it all planned. Our son says I am going to love the marketplace in Nice, so excited.

Our trip is getting very close sheffer, do you have all of your excursions planned?

Linda
