Where is the Ecstasy?

I feel so bad for the people waiting to get on. If you look at the other Galveston webcams (click the links above the cruise cam pic), you can see how bad the fog is all over the island. You can't even see the Gulf in the seawall and Gulf shots. We live about 80 miles north of Galveston and it's been sunny and beautiful here all day. I wish I could send our weather down to island.

I know someone waiting to get on this cruise and they are devastated! :(

I bet they are. My son and his girlfriend are waiting to get off the ship but it's looking like that's not going to happen for quite some time.

Good chance the next cruise will turn into another cruises to nowhere. Been there once a real lousy port compared to Tampa, Lauderdale, Cape Canaveral. No airline service there does not help either. No wonder so few ships sail from there especially when you throw in the severely lacking ports of call.

Some of us are just happy to be on vacation. Must be a Texas thing to see the glass half full. Galveston is amazing, so don't know where the lousy is that you saw (perhaps there was a hurricane happening around you at the time?)

At any rate, Carnival doesn't seem to mind. They always sail full from Galveston and have plans to expand that "lousy" terminal to accommodate SEVERAL more ships.

The fog must certainly be disheartening for those waiting to board, but is it great to be the one "stuck on the ship" getting to enjoy extra time?

Still normal activities going on?

I was stuck on the Conquest last month due to fog. We awoke around 6AM expecting to be back in Galveston, and we weren't. The CD announced on the PA system that we were a few miles out and that the port master would not open the port due to heavy fog. We were EXCITED that we will have the chance to stay on the ship a little while longer. Well after a couple hours it was horrific. The shops were closed, the casino closed, no activities going on, no nothing. Only a few select bars were open and even then you could only order a few select items. Then the deal breaker happened. We had to vacate our cabins so the crew could get them ready for the next passengers. We all had to go to the Theater and watch CNN news for 4 hours, all the while crowded with luggage EVERYWHERE!!! Talk about BORED to death. I wouldn't wish anyone get "fogged in" on a Cruise. IT'S NOT FUN... It was also the fact that we knew we were getting off and we wanted off and fast, but there was nothing we could do.

How far out do they have to be before the casinos open? Cruising due south? I guess that means fog isn't lifting anytime soon?

Has anyone heard when it might be in?

I had initially looked into taking the cruise that is supposed to leave today, but plans changed...sort of feeling relieved at this point.

The Ecstasy is about 25 miles south of Galveston steaming due south at 13.7 knots.

I'm bettin' the casino will open soon...

:)

Hmmm... if they don't make it in until tomorrow I'll take a $99 cruise to nowhere please :D

I emailed Steve about their situation but I'm sure I won't hear anything until there's some official word from Carnival about it.

They have to be in international waters to open the casino... well... that's not quite right as international water start 200 nautical miles from the coast. They need to be beyond the Exclusive Economic Zone which extends 24 miles from the coast...

:)

Terminal is inadequate, very limited cruise itineraries and hard to get to unless you drive. Dock area looks like Quint from jaws will appear at any moment. Light years away from Cape Canaveral, Tampa, Lauderdale not to mention the same old, same old itineraries.

Back in Feb08 we were fogged-in overnight! I've recently(13 months now) quit smoking but back then I had to have a smoke, especially drinking, but decided the half pack or so would be sufficient until I could snag a carton on board. Well.......since we didn't leave port I couldn't get smokes. I ended paying a really nice waiter $10 bucks for 9 smokes that got me to bed. It was really nice to wake-up and see open sea. Anyway, long story short, if they smoke make sure to have extra smokes;)

Wasn't that an AMAZING cruise... Finally getting underway about 7:30 the following morning!!!! We missed Progreso... but hey -- that was back when they a nie refund of OBC for missing ports!!! :) $75 for missing Progreso and $15 for missing lunch...

We had a GREAT cruise once we were underway!!!! :)

Being onboard and getting an extra day of food, fun, and pampering... not bad... But those with deadlines and obligations are panicked I'm sure...

But I agree... those at the pier... OH MY!!! :( I can't imagine how they are feeling trying to find a place to stay tonight... and missing their time on board!!!

My dad and sister are stuck on the ship right now and my sister is bored to death! They had to vacate their cabins early this morning so they've been stuck with their luggage all day. She said that it's freezing outside so they're stuck inside. And, they cut off internet access to the ship and are limiting everyone to 5 minutes per computer in the internet cafe.

Definitely extra workload for the onboard laundry, as the cabin stewards will have done two complete linen changes within 24 hours. Yowza!
