Darcy8 Posted March 11, 2010 #1 Share Posted March 11, 2010 If you visit Xunantunich is there much climbing to get to site? Or is the climbing involved getting to the top of the pyramid?
Rare crewsweeper Posted March 11, 2010 #2 Share Posted March 11, 2010 If you visit Xunantunich is there much climbing to get to site? Or is the climbing involved getting to the top of the pyramid? There is a hill from the parking lot to the actual site that can be somewhat steep but everyone in our group made it with no real issues, just some were slower than others. The climb to the top of the main temple IS quite steep because the "steps" are very high over 2 feet each and deep (you can't go bounding two at a time) and uneven. Plus the higher you go the narrow the passage. There is a "back" route up to the narrower passages that's more of a slope and shallow steps. Many people use that to go up and down. But up to the parking lot very little walking, bus to ferry is about 50 yards and a van picks you up to go to the parking lot.
mbrown02 Posted March 13, 2010 #3 Share Posted March 13, 2010 Here are some pictures I took at Xunantunich. They might help you decide if you want to do this excursion. You don't have to be an FB member to be able to view them: http://www.facebook.com/album.php?aid=2055545&id=1494320070&l=e59967f52a
busdriver161 Posted March 15, 2010 #4 Share Posted March 15, 2010 It is a paved path up to the temples. As someone already stated the ruins are very steep and narrow but getting to them is not bad at all! Go for it you will love it! It has been the best excursion we have taken.
