overnight cairo trip

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone, i'm after some help please!

We are booked to go on the Spirit, Pharoahs and the Promised land 31/03.The overnight trip to Cairo that i really wanted to do is no longer offered:(

Does anyone have any experience of Ramses for trips of this sort? They guarantee that you will not miss the boat or they will pay to get you to the next port.

We have done Thomson trips before and found them to be good value so should i just do two day trips as offered and not feel disappointed??

Any opinions greatly appreciated:o

Hi Cherie Amour!! Cute name!!

If you go to the Port section on this board in the 'Africa' section, you will see a lot of excellent reviews for Ramses Tours.

We did a one-day tour with them last November from Alexandria. And we are booked on an overnight for another cruise we have booked for next November. This time we have 2 ports in Egypt.

Our first experience was excellent. The booking process with George was efficient and professional. They were able to propose an itinerary that really suited our needs as we had been to Egypt before and wanted a 'different' itinerary. Our guide was knowledgeable and funny, and our driver excellent too.

I did not hesitate one minute to book again, and we are looking forward to this overnight in Cairo with Ramses!!

Hi Cherie,

Thomson seem to have done an awful lot of changing itineraries and excursions for this cruise!

Haven't been on any trips with Rameses, but if it is of any help in making up your mind I can recommend the ship's Pyramids & Tombs excursion which I have done before. You get to visit Memphis and the Step Pyramid at Sakkara as well as the Giza pyramids. The guide was very informative. It was a very long coach ride from Port Said though!

Hi, Tummysmummy,

We've now taken the plunge in Eqypt!!:D I talked myself out of the overnight trip thinking it daft to pay twice for accommodation and food and have booked private tours from each port with Ramses. The price was good and we get a complimentary camel ride (hopefully not off into the sunset!!).I also wanted to see the catacombs in Alexandria and Thomson didn't offer this.

It remains to be seen if we miss the boat , but with a promise of 5* accomodation and transfer to the next port if missed we were willing to take the chance. What an adventure it could be!!

Counting the days......

Have just returned from this cruise and must agree with 'tummysmummy' that the trip to Memphis, Sakkara and the tombs, giza pyramids and Sphinx including lunch at Movenpick resort hotel was hard to beat at only £80 pp.

travelling in convoy with armed escort vehicles and an armed guard on each coach who remains with the group at all times is very comforting !!

If you should unfortunately miss the ship....Did you realise that the next port is Ashdod in Israel ???? Not an easy country to enter !!!

Ah well, nothing ventured nothing gained! I did think twice but went on all the reviews of Ramses on here.Lets hope they are accurate.:)

Tummysmummy, if you see someone looking bedraggled, laughing hysterically on Ashdod port in the morning that will probably be me having spent the night trying to catch the boat up!!!!!!!!
