Santorini:museum hours/ sunset time mid-June

New to posting on this site. Have been faithfully reading posts which have been amazingly informative. Thanks.

We ar booked on NCL Gem cruise and will be in Santorini June 22 from 4pm to 11 pm. Does anyone know whether the cable cars going up be less crowded at this strange arrival time? Or will most cruisers be leaving... (wishful thinking)

We want to visit the archeoligical museum (near the bus stop) but everywhere that I have checked indicates that it is closed by 3:00. Does this mean we have no chance to visit this museum? This closing time contradicts information on one NCL's excursion that visits the museum on arrival at 4pm, then onward to Oia.

Anyone knows what time is sunset on June 22nd? This could help us know if watching sunset in Oia at all feasible, as we have to budget time to get back to Fira and ship, which appears can be a protracted procedure. Failing which we will watch sunset from Fira, or go back to ship early and watch in comfort and leisure...Any suggestions?

The sun will set a few minutes before 9PM which makes it a tight squeeze if you want to be in Oia. You would have to hire a taxi and have it waiting and this would ensure that you would be back in Fira by 9:45. That just gives you enough time to take the cable car back down to the port to catch the last tender (probably at 10:30). As to the museum, it is possible that the tour operator has made private arrangements to have the museum open for their tour (we have seen this done in other ports) or, you will find out when you get on the ship that the tour is cancelled (or itinerary changed).

Thanks! I just found a website that states that summer hours for the museum is to 7:30. This makes sense. But that's just one source. In any case, then, we will not wait for sunset in Oia. Watching from Santorini will be just fine. You are right that it would be too risky to get back with the crowds from Oia at 9 pm with departure at 11. So, based on your information, we will probably rush to the museum on arrival and hope that it is open, then on to Oia by taxi (we are a family of four, so this is quite cost-effective), then get back early to Santorini for leisurely sauntering and exploration. Most appreciative of your help.
